Jumping from diseases

Recommended Posts

Let me preface this by saying, I have been a hypochondriac since childhood. Saw my first psychiatrist in elementary school.... and again as a teen. Have had blood drawn more times than I can count.

My question, that nobody has been able to answer, is why do I grasp onto different diseases? Why do I get over the fear of one, only to jump to a new one a few weeks later.

I had been doing good for a couple of years, then Covid hit. Since august, I’ve been convinced of having a heart attack, stomach cancer, leukemia, and a brain tumor (leukemia and brain tumor have been my go tos my whole life, where the multiple rounds of blood work, CT’s and an MRI with contrast come in). Will I ever be cured??

I don’t know why you struggle, but I do the same. I filter through a few various diseases, but I also end up back with some sort of female cancer or melanoma. I got preoccupied with leukemia/lymphoma for a bit.
I think sometimes for me, once I realize the one disease isn’t likely I cycle to the next.

I have had some actual health issues and it was no fun dealing with them either. A friend of mine was in the hospital for 5 days with pancreatitis and another friend had a DVT in his left calf recently.

The Corona has triggered anxiety and fear in everybody.

It's hard to tell what is going on.  I am surprised there was as much testing being done, considering the movement of issues.

Well, the brain scans were in 2016, which is the last time I thought I had a brain tumor. Also thought I had a brain tumor in 2012, also had a CT. I’ve had 2 rounds of blood work since January.

I do this too! I recently had an ALS fixation and now I am very worried about Melanoma on my six year old. I think when I have a lot going on in my life I get anxious about health as a way to centralize all my worries. This is just a theory.

I have also had HA my entire life beginning when I had some scar tissue from a wound on my side from falling out of a tree. At ten years old I was convinced it was a tumor and told no one about it until years later.

I do this too.  I’ve been stuck on breast cancer for 2 months. I started having “weird sensations” on one side and it was happening everyday.  Randomly about 3 weeks ago, I got convinced I had something wrong with my heart.  Once that started I didn’t feel the sensations anymore, until I got the all clear on my heart, and now the sensations are back 🙄 ultrasound tomorrow for that, so hopefully it’ll be done after that

I noticed the thread on discontinuing medication.  Old issues can return if the old thinking isn't handled right.

Since you mentioned going back on.  Keep track of these thoughts as your medication kicks in.  Notice what you are thinking and how you are feeling.  The triggers don't cause the symptoms with meds, but the key is to handle the thinking before it turns to the body reaction.

Yeah, I have trouble with this, but it is something healthy to focus on - what is causing the anxiety that has me on these meds and trying to correct my reaction :).

I wish I knew what causes my anxiety.  I have never been able to figure out the root cause.

I'm the same, I can't figure out why I'm such a hypochondriac, maybe I'm just genetically highly strung.

I call it 'Disease of the Day'.  I've been MUCH better for years but will worry about a strange symptom but not catastrophize it.  Used too, tho.  Life was much easier for worriers before the internet.
