Having a rough day :(

Recommended Posts

Maybe all you wonderful people can help me out somehow. I woke up this morning feeling like I didn't sleep that well, as I mentioned in my post looking for natural sleep remedies. I believe that's why I'm having such an off day, but I don't really know at this point. I'm working to accept that I don't have all the answers, and that's fine.

My problem isn't that it's an off day, it's that getting up and around makes me feel worse. Of course, this isn't entirely foreign to me. When I have panic attacks I'm virtually useless at the peak. However, I'm still trying to get up and around and it just makes me feel worse.

I have this sort of "tickle" (only word I can find for it) at the top middle of my chest / bottom of my throat. Could that be the post nasal drip that I get practically 24/7? I *think* (not 100% positive) that may be contributing to the anxiety. It somewhat comes and goes, but more often present. This is only happening today, it's not something that has been around for a while. I woke up with it.

Maybe it's an environmental factor? For many years when I wake up in the morning I have a really dry mouth, whether I sleep at home (lived in a few homes over the past few years) or in a hotel or wherever else. I don't know if that may be causing some throat irritation. We recently had a vapor barrier installed in the crawlspace and they did a fungus treatment, because we had fungus and a small amount of mold down there.

I'm only drinking water now. Had a glass or two of tea this morning, but it wasn't helping. Haha. I just don't know I'm having an off day, and I felt the need to write it down somewhere. I checked my temp earlier because I felt a bit feverish (probably due to lack of quality sleep, not abnormal for me) and it was normal, and BP is also normal (130ish / 73) - won't lie, I checked because I was admittedly worried about that because of the tickle in my chest / throat and feeling worse when getting up and around doing stuff.

I know I'll be fine eventually. It just gets really tough to tolerate at times. I know you all can relate as well. Thank you for reading.

I get that in my upper chest too, frequently. I notice it’s worse when my sinuses and allergies are acting up. I’ve also had it when my acid reflux is bad. I told my doctor about it and she wasn’t concerned. She said my lungs and everything are clear

Yeah, that makes sense. My lungs are clear as well, aside from what my doc thinks was some "diminished sound", but there's "no fluid." But she wasn't concerned about that either, she just said to stop smoking - I know I need to. I don't doubt that I'm not the only one who's ever experienced this, but thank you for still sharing of course. :)

I think I'm just on edge. We just got back from vacation Friday night. My son is here this weekend. School starts for the kids in a couple weeks. It's back to work for the lady and I tomorrow. And I proposed to her yesterday. :D Lots of excitement around here.

I was just about to say this might be residual anxiety from vacation. I love vacation but damn does it bring on anxiety for me. I'm sure the tickle is absolutely nothing at all and you are more aware of your body right now, especially after not sleeping too well. Just have a rest day.

Congratulations on your engagement!!!!!! That's so awesome! I'm excited for y'all.

I'm trying to have a rest day, but I don't like sitting still for so long. Haha. That and my mind won't shut up long enough for me to just relax.

Thank you! It is indeed very exciting for all of us. :D

I have a constant tickle on my chest. I've been told I'm just sensitive to all things. I've had a rough couple weeks so I get it. Honestly, I have better success getting busy with tasks than relaxing - takes my mind off things! 😂 Congrats on your engagement! How exciting!

Haha, yeah. It's different for everyone. I've read here and elsewhere that some people have to sit down and do nothing during a bout of intense anxiety, otherwise they feel worse. But others find nearly instant relief by getting up and moving. Thank you, it's definitely very exciting. :)

Aaaand I just had a sudden panic attack. LoL. I'm not even remotely surprised. I was sitting on the couch trying to chill out. Suddenly I felt my chest muscles tighten and felt short of breath. I slowed down and took some deep breaths, the best I could, and I started feeling a little better. I still feel shaky and on edge, but that's to be expected.

Another thing I did to feel better was stick an ice pack to my face. My therapist told me about it. She said when I start feeling anxious to put an ice pack on my face or dip my face in a pool of cold water or similar. Apparently it's supposed to help sort of reset the nervous system. It helps slow down breathing and heart rate. It does work, at least enough that I can tolerate it and make myself feel better. Do any of you do this, and does it work for you as well?

Congratulations binn!  Yes whenever I’m stressed which is most of the time, I start getting a lot of symptoms. I’m sure you’re just over tired and streasedstressed

Yeah, I'm sure you're right. I post here with the intention of simply writing down my thoughts so I can read them to myself, and share with others. I know some of it looks like reassurance seeking, but I try to be conscious of that because that's not ultimately what I'm looking for. Not ashamed of it, I'm just trying my best to approach it more appropriately based on what my therapist has told me.

You said you just got back from vaca? It could be like what Holls said. I got back thursday and I had panic attacks Friday and Saturday (and no necessarily a tickle but I had like butterflies in my chest) . And maybe currently one right now. It could be sinuses, and it’s presenting it self a bit different than what you are used to? I hope things turn around. And Congrats on you engagement!!

Yes, we got home two days ago. I did have some panic / anxiety during the vacation, though no actual attacks. Just general feelings of anxiety / nervousness. I've never had an issue with sinuses that I recall, so I wouldn't have a clue what it feels like. Haha. I guess that could be it, or allergies. At this point I'm fairly convinced I may have nonallergic rhinitis, because I have all but one of the common symptoms on a regular basis, and the things I experience are also extremely common complaints among people online who talk about their diagnosis. It's not a big deal, just annoying, but easy to treat. I want to talk to my doc about it and get her professional (and formally educated) opinion before I assume anything though.

I'm feeling a little better this evening. Still on edge, but no tickle in my throat or chest that I can tell. Just trying my best to relax before going to bed soon. Have to get back in work mode in the morning. Haha.

Thank you. We're so happy and excited. :)

Auhhh Bin, I'm sorry you've had a rough day. If I were to put it in a nutshell, I think you're tired.

Tired from anticipating vacation, tired from the stress (ie: fun) of vacation, tired from not sleeping well last night.

Tired = raw nerves, heightened awareness, hypersensitivity, and a shit storm of swirling thoughts in our head.

You're going to be ok, I think you need a little recovery time.

🙂

Yeah, I think you're right. Haha. Hopefully I'll sleep better tonight. I'm in bed before 10pm, so we'll see. Thanks a bunch, @Jae. :)

We got back from vacay at 2am and just woke up at 10am. Anytime I am overtired my anxiety ramps up. Now that we are home I have to start thinking about all the stuff I need to do before my son leaves for band camp, school starting and getting my daughter back to college in Boston. My plan is to eat way healthier than we did on vacation and go to the gym every day to work out the adrenaline. You had lots of excitement during your trip (congrats!) and I’m sure after a day or two of getting back to your routine your anxiety will fade.

Man, you had a crazy week it appears! I'm sure the anxiety will calm down as soon as you get back to your normal routine.

Congrats on the engagement bud!!!

Thank you both. Being overly tired definitely exacerbates my anxiety as well. It seems I slept much better last night, at least eight hours. I feel much better so far today. A bit of anxiety this morning, but nothing I can't manage. Thank you. :)

I’m curious if maybe this is possibly what I’m suffering from as well. I have been having really bad acid reflux and for the past 5 days I’ve been having a weird chest feeling and a tingle in my throat and at the bottom and now I’m coughing a lot. Let me know if there’s anything that you do to help it! This gives me hope!

When I’m having acid reflux, I really watch what I’m eating, no fatty foods or junk food. I also prop my pillows up at night. I do cough quite a bit when the reflux is bad. I have a lot of lost nasal drip too. Which can also cause the symptoms.

Can post nasal drip actually give you mucus, coughing, and a feeling of tightness into your chest?

My reflux is generally well under control, but I've heard it can contribute to PND. And that seems to be true for me. Do you have the cobblestone throat? I do, and that's another common symptom of chronic PND.

Yes, absolutely. The excess mucus in the nose drips to the back of the throat. That leads to mucus buildup, hence the cough, and repeated coughing can lead to tense / tight chest muscles.
