Can heartburn cause vomiting?

Recommended Posts

So I've had bad cases of heartburn before where I've had to change my diet and it's gone away.  However I've had a few times now where in the middle of the night I've either woken up with bile in my mouth and or gotten sick, but it's only bile.  I know alcohol can be a trigger so I'm cutting that out but the one night I only had 2 drinks over a long period and woken up and felt sick.  So can heartburn cause vomiting?  I'm afraid it's cancer.

I have horrid acid reflux, had to take omeprazole / lansoprazole for years, and I've woken up a few times being a bit sick in my mouth (rank, but true 😅) - it's just stomach acid, drink deffo exasperates it for me, if you're concerned speak to your dr, but I have the exact same symptoms and have for years, had scans etc and I'm all good, just really bad acid reflux x

My GI physician told me that GERD can cause nausea and vomiting.

Eww yes, I actually had this happen twice in the past month.  I felt stomach acid go all the way up to my throat and into my mouth.....I was freaking out, trying to swallow saliva to neutralize.  There was definitely burning going on in my throat.  It was definitely from something I had eaten.

Yep! I have acid reflux and have woke up choking on vomit. It’s disgusting! I’m on prescription meds for my heartburn but find when it’s getting bad to the point of bile in my mouth, baking soda and water (in a shot glass) is the quickest fix to calm it down.

Yes, alcohol and fatty foods make it worse for me. Not that I should be having those anyway...
