statins

Recommended Posts

I've been on them a few years but now am terrified they'll harm me. They likely saved my life though. I am so worried, don't know who or what to believe anymore!! Does anyone here take them?

And before you reply, remember that we suffer from anxiety here. I just spent half a year of my life in absolute misery because of misinformation I was told online. I really don't want to go through that again! 😡

My wife and some of my friends take statins and have had no serious side effects. You should take a Coq10 supplement as statins can deplete it.

I took a low dose statin (Atorvastatin) for a while a few years ago, and I had no issues. I stopped taking it because my cholesterol was normal (per my doc's recommendation), but unfortunately I never took the time to check a few months later to see if stopping the statin was okay in the long term.

I have heard of a statin, but I don't know what it really is.

If it's cholesterol, I was threatened by my doctor to be put on one in January.  I had gained five pounds due to not running (Corona and police fining people for being outside without a mask in 2020 did me in!).   I have been running my @$$ off to lose those five pounds along with the weight I gained from Paxil fat and what didn't come off when I switched to Duloxetine (Cymbalta).  I have a checkup at the end of the month.

The frequent doctor visits began five years ago this month when I had my eye hemorrhage due to severe sinus infection.  Talk about fear - I was told I would be permanently blind and that I had had a stroke within a week!  Neither or which happened when testing showed nothing!

Many people are on statins with no issues.

Statins are incredibly safe, one of the safest drugs we have. In fact, I've read that some doctors think everyone should be taking them, since it would prevent a few cardiovascular events in people who have normal bloodwork.

There are credible reports that statins might be preventative even for some types of cancer. I’ve been on them for 20+ years with no issues and my lipid numbers are excellent

I have high cholesterol and refuse to take statins.  High cholesterol can be caused by things like a wonky thyroid (which I have).  I changed doctors to a doctor who allows me to help make decisions on medications.  I have CNS damage due to chemo that ended Aug 2009.  I refuse Cymbalta for the discomfort.  I had 80% of my liver removed due to colon cancer in 2012 and decided to avoid anything that could cause my liver to work hard.  https://www.forefronthealth.com/hypothyroidism-and-cholesterol/#comment-338965
