Golf ball in throat feeling back again

Recommended Posts

I was here a few months ago with the weird "golf ball in throat" feeling.  Once I decided to ignore it and cut certain foods, it went away entirely for a few months.  That alone gives me comfort that it is nothing worse.  My son gave me his cold and cough a few weeks back.  I have been coughing since, never extremely bad or anything, but it never wants to go away.  I am also in my fifth week of running training and I always cough a lot when I first start running.  Anyway, since a few weeks ago, that golf ball feeling is back.  It has me a little freaked out but the fact that it went away before tells me that it is likely just poor diet, stress of the goings on in the world, and largely the cough that has once again aggravated my throat and esophagus.  It is causing the discomfort behind my breast bone and weird gurgle noises after I swallow just as it did before.  I just want some feedback from people who understand anxiety and how quickly you can convince yourself it is more than it is.  Thoughts?

Sounds like reflux. It could also be a bit of post nasal drainage. Do you have seasonal allergies?

I do, I usually get them in May/June but they have definitely flared up a little bit lately with the being outside running a lot.

My allergies are absolutely terrible right now. I felt like I had a lump in my throat a couple days ago. Now I have post nasal drainage cough.

I have this exact same thing right now. It’s been going on for a month. I’ve been told it’s acid reflux and my Dr. gave me a prescription. Haven’t noticed much improvement yet but I’ve only been taking it for a week. It’s caused me many panic attacks and even a trip to the ER. I am hoping it will go away at some point. I can hardly eat anything.

I get the lump in my throat feeling all the time and it makes it really hard to swallow anything. I "know" it's anxiety but I'm always afraid that it's something more insidious.

The other members who posted here gave good insight into what it could be. I know for a fact allergies and colds can do that too, I've experienced it, especially when there's a lot of mucus buildup. It could also be acid reflux, which I've been told can apparently be exacerbated by anxiety symptoms.

I know this isn't a good time to go to the doctor but it probably isn't the best time to Google symptoms either, as I know all too well how that can turn out.

Either way, there is a possibility that whatever it is, your anxiety is making it worse. Try drinking tea or eating soup, sometimes hot liquids can ease it a little.

Best of luck and hope you'll find something helpful in here,

Luca

Hot liquids often remove the feeling.  Also, when I wake up in the morning it is totally gone for a time.  I'm sure due to my relaxing all night.  Silly little problems we have.

This is definitely causing more anxiety today.  Does anyone have recommendations for relieving this feeling?  Aside from hot drinks.

My brother used to have this problem. What helped him was Ginger (has anti nausea properties), and he went on Librium for a short course. It got so bad for him that he had an upper endoscopy to make sure it wasn't something other than anxiety.  Today he is fine but I'm not sure how he got it under control/ if he continues any treatment.  Also, now he has a lot of weird allergies that he didn't have in the past like to Avocado.

Personally, anxiety snuck up on me and I hate it. Today I have coughing fits/gagging (like in the movie the Joker when he's on stage).  What helps me a lot are cough drops but I'm looking for any other remedies so I don't have to carry cough drops with me all the time...… Any ideas...help?

Cough drops also help me.  I haven't tried mucinex, but I hate medicines like that as they make me feel super weird.

I have this from time to time and when it starts I remember that it likes to hang around.. mine usually lasts a month. I have no idea what it is . I've been told post nasal drip. It's annoying as all get out Bec it's always there and of course it's on our minds 24/7 which just makes it more prominent. Hugs, I understand so much how you feel!. I even had a few posts on it a few years ago. When it flares, I try hard to not focus on it. I have noticed when I do have it I try to cough it away then that leads to more coughing and a tired chest..  just to let you know if you have started that.. I think it's just a normal reaction to cough it away.

Thanks Holls.  I had a bad cough for a few weeks.  Constant and very annoying.  I am assuming that that cough just brought it back in full.  Hoping it leaves again now that my cough is gone.

Just to point out the absurdity of anxiety.  My tongue and gums randomly were inflamed for a few days.  Probably from something I ate.  My focus 100% went to that...and this problem almost entirely vanished in that time.  Anxiety is just so stupid.  My tongue is very slightly still inflamed and it still has my focus.  Our minds are unbelievably powerful things.

@sTeaLth Ive had that a few months and have it today. What worked for me is sleeping with a humidifier (I have seasonal allergies) and drink lots of water and gargle with water and salt. It will help
