seaurch7 1 Posted June 5, 2018 I really hate how anxiety and abdominal pain can feed off of each other. I am dealing with stomach issues and makes me anxious and the more anxious I get the more bothersome it becomes. I am tempted to just go to the ER and have imaging done to rule things out but the costs of doing so are stopping me. I feel hopeless right now and scared. I fear that if I don't investigate whats going on then I won't catch the problem in time yet I don't want to go into debt for nothing. Things were going well today until I started pressing my stomach searching for clues. I was laying down and found it hurts my back if I press in deep by my naval. I can also feel a pulse easily. I know that a aortic aneurysm at 31 is extremely rare but this is how irrational by health anxiety has become. Has anyone else felt pain when pressing stomach and or felt their aortic pulsing? Nutmegbella 91 Posted June 5, 2018 I’ve felt stomach pains, raging from a little pain when touching certain spots to full on severe cramp it takes the air out of you. And all during or after high anxiety peaks. I can’t go running to the doctors, I will have to pay full amount for every little test they do. So I tooo have to make sure that if I go it’s for a real reason. I haven’t found anything that works.
MonkeyG 19 Posted June 5, 2018 My stomach stays messed up. Colonoscopies, an endoscopy in December, GI Dr’s, rectal dr’s, all sorts of ultrasounds... anxiety! And my pulse is so strong in my naval, you can see it if I lie down. My grandmother actually has an aneurysm there so I’m always extra paranoid... US have shown nothing. All normal and I’ve been told repeatedly that it’s normal to see and feel a pulse there.
Greenbean427 6 Posted June 6, 2018 One thing that I have started to do is think about if the symptom was noticeable all day or just when I am perseverating. If you focus I feel like you can see a pulse anywhere! The likelihood of it being anything but anxiety is pretty slim— my heart rate is so much more noticeable when I am anxious. My digestive tract is a complete mess when I am struggling and for a few weeks after.
Mike L 86 Posted June 7, 2018 There is a known and proven mind gut connection. Stress, depression, and anxiety can cause hell in your stomach and mess up your digestion. The Vagus nerve controls many things in the body and is also linked from the brain to the stomach. Look it up and you will see!
lofwyr 215 Posted June 10, 2018 Iam a stomach sufferer, see the post I am about to make, but I also have the dubious honor of having a thoracic aortic aneurysm, nearing the operable point. Unless you are a power lifter, or a particularly aggressive weight lifter, and/or have a family history of aortic aneurysms, I am sure that isn't much of an issue, especially at your age. Self exams are dubious at best, I can feel my own pulse easily anywhere I push, because it amplifies the pulse in your own fingers. Unless you have years and years of medical training, I would be dubious of any "tests" you give yourself.
LilyLabVA 56 Posted June 11, 2018 35 YO Female and if I look at my stomach I can see it pulsing! I can also feel it. Sat in my car feeling it several years ago thinking OMG I am a ticking time bomb for an aortic aneurism! Nope. Had scans since then for other reasons and not a thing noted about the pulsing. Stomach issues are SO common. I work at a school and tons of students get stomach aches when nervous. I am not saying yours is due to nervousness or anxiety but just to show you that stomach issues at incredibly common and can be attributed to many different things.
