Celebs with Anxiety/Depression

Recommended Posts

Crazy as it may seem to us peeps, but celebrities also suffer from anxiety and depression.

Only this week alone I found out that comedian Michael McIntyre and former Corrie actress Helen Flanagan both suffer from anxiety.

Helen is currently in the jungle in I'm A Celeb, and she seems to be getting voted for every task there is, this is really not nice for her :(.

Do you know of any other celebs who suffer like we do? Post your thoughts and celebs here.

Yes, but Catherine, why surprised?. They are human and the pressures on them are much greater than  a lot of us have. Many great people have suffered anxiety and depression. Winston Churchill had his 'black dog' that used to come and sit at his feet, as he once described it. History tells us that Alexander the Great suffered in this way. We are indeed in good company.    Jon.

I'm not really all that surprised. It is easy to see how these things happen to them and why a lot of them have break downs. They hide it so well when they're in public. Well, for as long as they can anyway.

I'm sometimes a little surprised because like Catherine said, they hold it together so well in public. I dont think I could do it!!

I was surprised about Robin Williams. He was one person who I wouldn't have suspected and I was shocked when I heard about him. I have always thought that he had sad eye's but he always appeared to be so happy and full of life. It just goes to show you can't always tell and some people are good at hiding it.

He was so talented. Anxiety and depression seem to be common amongst creative types. To add a few more celebs: Rose Byrne, Catherine Zeta Jones, Ruby Rose, Kim Basinger, Kirsten Dunst, Vivien Leigh and one of my favourite authors JK Rowling.

He sure was. Its so sad what happened. I forgot about Ruby Rose. Its no wonder at all why she suffered from it, the things she went through growing up. Its such a shame she had to go through what she did. I think she is a great role model.

Did you know that Winston Churchill also suffered from depresssion? He even named this disorder “black dog”, which only confirms that it was his life’s companion. Churchill was trying to fight the disorder all his life and probably that’s why he “prescribed” himself whiskey with soda, which he was starting to drink every morning, following by the cigar. But these were mildly relieving the constant melancholy and s*****al thoughts. There is a full list of celebreties who had depression:http://undepress.net/11-famous-people-with-depression-you-probably-were-guessing/

Winston Churchill's life was erratic. He never went to bed until 4am and got up at 11am. He drove his generals and staff made by insisting on watching a war film at 3am awhile everyone else's wanted to sleep. He certainly was a depressive and, as the previous post says, his 'Black Dog' often lay at his feet. His depression. It was sheer courage and determination that carried him through such bad times. But something else did too and it's something we can all learn from. There was never a doubt in his mind that Britain would win through. He refused to allow any talk of defeat, and punished severely those who dared mention it.

In anxiety that same conviction is needed. We have to stop any thoughts of 'can't do' and replace them with 'will do', 'can do'. It took time in those war years to win, just as it takes time to come out of anxiety, but it can be done given the will. Churchill had  many 'setbacks'. There must have been times when he came close to despair but, even then, his faith in a good outcome never wavered. We should adopt the same attitude because victory is possible.          Jon.

Hi Alina. Welcome to AC. :).

I do hope we can help if you feel you have a problem. There are many great guys and gals on this site who know all about anxiety, believe me, don't we just! Have a good look round and come back if you want to talk. You may have found very little understanding about anxiety from those around you, and you may even have been told to 'snap out of it'. Oh yeah!! Those that talk such nonsense should just have one day of it. Do them good! Good to have you here.       Jon.
