Ashleyspicer84 84 Posted September 22, 2021 I have absolutely no taste. I can smell though. My son started throwing up last Thursday night and was a little run down but better the next day. He is 7. My daughter started throwing up Monday night and yesterday the vomiting had stopped but she was very achy and had a headache. Last night she ran a 99.1 fever and woke up very snotty this morning. She is 12. Now I can’t taste ANYTHING. On Thursday and Friday I felt like I was going to throw up a few times and had some serious stomach cramps. I took my temp because I was a little chilled and it was 98 something and it’s normally 97.5. I am a little runny nosed but I also have ragweed allergies. I got tested yesterday and it was neg. taking my daughter today at 3. I am seriously freaking the hell out. We have not been vaccinated either. My HA won’t let me do it. I can’t even make myself get a flu shot.
Doug97 19 Posted September 22, 2021 So your fear of the vaccine is greater than your fear of covid? Odd that you can smell but not taste, since most taste sense is actually smell. Can you detect any of the basic tastes: sweet, salty, bitter, sour or umami? These are the only things that the taste buds on the tongue can detect. MARC 431 Posted September 22, 2021 I too was afraid at first of getting the COVID vaccine. Once I talked to my physician and I saw people getting sick from COVID who were not vaccinated, that convinced me to get the shot. (Pfizer).
Ashleyspicer84 84 Posted September 22, 2021 I can not taste anything. Diet Coke, toothpaste, mouth wash, eggs, bread.
Doug97 19 Posted September 22, 2021 So the Coke doesn't even taste sweet?
Ironman 198 Posted September 25, 2021 Did you both eat something that might have been rancid? It sounds like a type of food poisoning I had. The Wuhan Coronavirus affects smell more than taste, but they are intertwined. Having taste alone affected is weird.
MARC 431 Posted September 26, 2021 None of us are physicians on this forum that I know of, so if you can't taste, it is time to call a physician.
Doug97 19 Posted September 26, 2021 I agree, if there really is a complete loss of taste, including the 5 basic taste sensations, then a doctor is needed. But something tells me that there is some hyperbole at work here.
PennyPanic 276 Posted September 26, 2021 First, don't panic and here's why... I know lots of people with and without the vaccine that had covid and they are all just fine. I'm not saying you have COVID. Def get tested...but worst case scenario remember that the survival rates is fantastic. Over 99% for most ages etc... Long long long time ago, I had a bad cold (way before COVID - like 10 years ago) and lost my sense of taste - taste only...not so much smell ... for about 3 days. It's actually not unusual for a bad cold to alter your sense of taste and/or smell. I mean think about it...if you're congested...it's hard to smell, right? Keep us posted. Get tested. Be smart. If COVID ask about current treatments. No matter what I truly believe you'll be just fine. xoxo
MotherOfMaya 18 Posted September 30, 2021 I had Covid about a month ago, and I too freaked out...and posted here. I am pretty overweight so that was my main cause for concern when I tested positive. I lost my sense of taste first, and smell came after and it gradually decreased until it went and while it has greatly improved, it still hasn't returned to 100%. Load up on vitamins (500 mgs a day of vitamin C, 5000ius a day of vitamin d3, quercetin, and 50mgs of zinc) and see if you can get your hands on some NAC (Ivermectin too if you can get the human version). If things get worse, you can look into getting monoclonal antibodies if you want to. I scheduled an appointment for the antibodies and then read the paperwork and decided against it but a lot of people are finding it very helpful in getting them back to feeling better. Something that kept me sane throughout it was using a pulse-ox. Even if I was panicking and feeling like I couldn't breathe, the pulse-ox told me I was fine and that definitely helped my sanity. You will be okay! Get tested again if your daughter is negative but if she is positive you can feel pretty sure that you have it too.
