sTeaLth 237 Posted June 6, 2021 I have had crawling tingles off and on for about a year now in different spots on both feet. I’ve labeled it sciatica and it does disappear for days at a time. I sit a lot for work and recreation. A few days ago my left heel start doing this weird feeling almost like it’s half asleep. It only bothers me if I brush my finger across it, or have on a sock that rubs it, wear shoes, walk, etc. If I just sit or something, I forget about it until something hits it. Basically, it makes that weird crawl feeling for a second or two and then goes away. Very bizarre. I’m curious if this is also related to what I think is my other sciatica issues. Anyone have some experience with this?
MARC 429 Posted June 6, 2021 A number of years ago I had crawling/tingling sensations on the top of my head. They persisted off and on for a while and I got a little concerned. I went to my ENT physician and I talked him into giving me an MRI of my brain. For the insurance to pay for it, I had to say I had tinnitus. The MRI was clear and the tingling and crawling sensations were attributed to tension in my neck, back and/or shoulders.
sTeaLth 237 Posted June 6, 2021 I’m willing to bet it’s sciatica or pinched nerves. I am going to try doing more stretching and exercises like I did early on with feet stuff in hopes of improvement. Thanks for the reply.

It started when I took a shoe off after mowing my yard. It feels like something tore, like a muscle or tendon. Gently stretching seems to help as long as I don't go too far.
sTeaLth 237 Posted June 7, 2021 Interesting. I have realized that it is almost none existent in the morning when I wake up. So apparently, sleeping and laying down for long periods of time makes it diminish. Just another reason it is sounding more and more like a pinched nerve or something similar. I can't think of anything life threatening that could cause my heel to tingle and feel partially asleep, but my anxiety is trying anyway. Just mark this off as another thing my anxiety tried to cling to and cause me to focus on. It almost caused a mini panic attack yesterday morning when I was examining. I thought my ankles/heels were different sizes for a few minutes. I then realized that I am an idiot and investigating is going to no one any good. Here is hoping it continues to improve and disappears. Thanks for your reply.
sTeaLth 237 Posted June 21, 2021 I avoided checking my heel for the feeling for about three days. I stepped differently so it wouldn’t cause the feeling and never touched it on purpose to see if it would vibrate/tingle. I finally checked it after three days and it had pretty much totally gone away. Then a few days later it was back again. Though it still is not present when I first wake up, it does show up after I’ve been up for an hour or so. I’m not sure what is going on but I’m trying not to panic. It’s likely a nerve pinched… but my mind keeps going to MS. I have had a feeling of something tickling my toes in both feet for almost a year that comes and goes and my mind is sure that this is the next stage of major issues. Any reassurance or clear heads would be appreciated. I don’t want to spiral in this… it’s just anxiety again… right?
MARC 429 Posted June 21, 2021 Many years ago out of the blue part of my left thigh felt like their was cold water running on it. The problem was their was no cold water running on it. Then my thigh got partially numb. I went to my doctor who sent me to an orthopedic physician. He examined me and said I had a nerve trapped in my pelvis area and that was causing the problem and it was caused by stretching exercises I was doing at the time. He said to me you have 2 choices. The first is to do nothing and live with it or get operated on and he said if I were you I would do nothing. It has been many years now and I have learned to live with the constant loss of feeling on a small part of my thigh. If I touch it now, it still feels weird. No more cold water feelings.

Sounds very similar. I have literally ZERO other symptoms outside of some lower back pain sometimes. This is my saving grace for staving off panic. I sit a LOT for work and recreation at home so I’m trying to convince myself it’s just a compressed nerve, restricted blood flow, anxiety, or all three. I plan to start running and doing some workouts as well as going to the chiropractor this afternoon in hopes of relieving some of it. I feel like when I don’t focus on it, the feeling barely happens. This makes me think it’s like 10% the feeling and 90% me focusing on it that makes it happen.
sTeaLth 237 Posted June 22, 2021 I went to a chiropractor yesterday and told him what was going on and my ultimate fears. He said it doesn’t sound like a neurological issue at all. He said it sounds like my sciatic being pinched or trapped or worst case I have a slipped disc that could require physical therapy or surgery. He doesn’t think it’s the latter but it’s hard for me to believe a simple pinched nerve could cause tickling in my toes and my heel to feel a tickle/vibration when stepped on or touched. I’m going to try to rest in his opinion and stretch/workout a lot more and see if it doesn’t relieve it.

Thanks, it helps knowing other people have similar stuff. I have looked up issues with this type of feeling in the heel and there is simply nothing linking it to life threatening things. Almost guaranteed it is a pinched nerve either due to tension, a possible spur, or worst case... a slipped disc. None of these things worry me too much. Neurological issues are what I fear most and it seems like I can't find a link when when I really try to find something. 🙂

I actually hurt it taking off a shoe after mowing the lawn. I used my left foot to hold the right shoe as I pulled my right foot out. It has gotten better, but I still have to watch it. sTeaLth 237 Posted June 24, 2021 don't know what brought on the heel feeling but now my mind won't stop thinking about it and it causes anxiety as a result. In turn, I am sure the anxiety makes it worse than it actually is, not to mention testing constantly has to make things worse.I had a bad night emotionally and now this already present anxiety is bringing me pretty low. I just want to feel happy and normal with no body weirdness that could be sinister death symbols. I'm finding myself as low as I have been in some time today. Heel tingling shouldn't be too big of a deal but I am convinced it is horrible because I can't relieve it. It even is present first thing in the morning now, which it wasn't when it started two weeks ago. That makes me convinced it is getting worse. 😕

It's only worse because you are putting your mind on it. I would go for a walk and burn off some of the nervous energy. I am hoping tonight will make this week the first since before the pandemic when I went for a run three times. I used ot be able to run 6 miles at one time, but the lockdowns messed everything up. I exercise outside and the fear of getting pulled over while running forced a complete stop of running for five weeks and I have yet to fully recover after a full year. I am still only running 4.5 miles, but my speed is slowly improving. I have had to fight lethargy and pandemic/medication fat. Anyway, the heel issues are improving for me, so that might be encouragement.
Shanowl80 73 Posted June 26, 2021 I have the same issue and it’s related to sciatica. I’m currently in a flare up right now and it’s awful. Best thing I do when this happens is stretched that specifically target the sciatic nerve, alternate heat and ice, and ibuprofen.

It will take some time. I still have a bit of a weird feeling in my heel, but it's not bad. and I did get that third run in. First time since before the Corona at least, so it's been nearly two years.
sTeaLth 237 Posted June 27, 2021 The last few days it’s been almost entirely gone. I’ve been not checking for it, which helps anxiety. Moisturizing my feet every day, which seems to help a lot actually. And I’ve been doing stretching every day. It’s once again totally gone in the mornings and barely there if at all through the day. I’d say I’ve found the culprit and will continue to focus on mediation while ignoring it for anxiety sake. Thanks for your help guys. I’ll message back in a few weeks on any updates.
sTeaLth 237 Posted July 3, 2021 I was doing solid. The feeling had vanished with moisturizing my feet and stretching often. I went on vacation on Tuesday and have been doing those two things less, though not stopped entirely. The problem is that I kept checking. Every day at least a couple times. Well, today we went on a 5 mile hike in the mountains and my left leg sciatic is really bothering me. Aaaaand, the issue returned. I can feel it when touching my heel and some when walking again. It isn’t as worrisome this time as this almost definitely proves my sciatic is to blame. Still, frustrating that it won’t go away for good and give me peace. 🤦🏼♂️ It allows that “what if” to linger. I noticed a few days ago that my left thigh muscle has a slight bulge to it that isn’t on the right. In all honestly it is probably from constantly stretching that leg and doing weird things with it to try and relieve the heel issue. But of course that’s adding to my background concern. Bah! How do we ignore symptoms and just live anyway. I find it hard to enjoy things when I’m concerned about something. Even something as silly as my sciatic nerve making my heel pulse when touched in a specific way. Stupid!
sTeaLth 237 Posted July 4, 2021 I made a mistake and googled leg lumps on the thigh. My left, which is where my tingle in the foot is happening, definitely has a strange lump that is not on the left. I found that it could be sarcoma or a tumor on the bone that grows painlessly. This has no pain and now I’m borderline spiraling. I don’t want this to happen. I haven’t been this bad in some time. What if it is and it’s what’s causing this tingle in my foot too? I’m literally shaking. 😭
