Itching All Over

Recommended Posts

I was doing sooooo good these past 3 days! I didn’t post anything/log on here all weekend and almost all day today but then tonight I started itching all over. Like everywhere. My stomach, my hands, my arms, my toes, my legs, everything. Though most of my stomach pain has calmed down it’s still there so these two things combined immediately make me think of pancreatic cancer. I took a shower just now to try and calm down, telling my anxiety to ‘shut up’ but the itching continued and now it feels worse. I’m terrified. I don’t know what to do! There’s no other logical explanation for why I’m itching all over. If there was I would be trying to speak that truth into my life.

Itching can be from a panic attack, sometimes that happens to me, adrenaline rushing through you can cause itching. Especially if you’re very stressed out. It could also be irritation from an allergen. Have you been around any plants or eaten anything new? Try taking a Benadryl. It will help calm you down and, if it’s due to an allergy, stop the itching through that way as well.

Omeprozole leaving your system could be causing the itching, too, and it might be a sign of an allergy to it.

Thank you so much! I haven’t eaten anything new but I was under a blanket at my aunt’s house earlier and thought maybe it was from that but i’m Over there all the time and have never had a problem. Maybe it’s seasonal allergies? Can seasonal allergies give you itching all over? Or maybe it is the Omeprazole leaving my system but I think it’s probably mostly gone by now (probably why I’m able to eat normally again and not feel like death is right around the corner...yay!)

Yes, they definitely can, especially if you got any pollen (or whatever trigger) on your skin. You can also develop new allergies, although that’s more rare.

I’m glad your stomach is getting better :) I think you were having a bad reaction to omeprozole, or it was a little stomach bug that finally passed. Omeprozole has a whole list of bad side affects, and my brother was hit with a lot of them, that’s why he stopped using it. Depending on how long you were taking it, it could take longer to get out of your system. Given that the problems stopped fairly soon after stopping the medicine, it was likely that.

It should be fully out of your system soon if it’s not already, though, which is good.

Ugh! I went to sleep and when I woke up I wasn't feeling too itchy, just a tad bit, but not too bad. Right now though, after being at work for an hour, I'M ITCHY ALL OVER! On my stomach, my face, my arms, my legs, etc. I'm so scared this is something bad! I keep trying to distract myself and tell my anxiety to shut up but I can't find a logical reason as to why this is happening.

It can be anxiety. Heightened awareness can cause this as well. Like when you see a spider or a bug on you, you get itchy all over when you think about it crawling on you. Your nerves are very sensitive from anxiety and they can misfire and cause itching, twitching, pain, etc.

This is quite interesting! I knew that anxiety could cause some itching but this is pretty intense. Hmmmm I wonder if that's what it could be though. I didn't know that they 'misfired'. Any ideas on how to get rid of it?

It is anxiety driven, excited nerve endings.  Another symptom of anxiety.  It's on the move to another condition as it it is not as effective at scaring you with the stomach issues.

Well that sucks because I was hoping it  would just go away lol I'm so sick of it! It's just weird because now that I stop to think about it the itchiness is all over but especially on my feet! Ugh! I hate this because my mind immediately goes to t the worst case scenario when I know it's highly unlikely

Unfortunately anxiety does not go away because you're sick of it.  If anything it drives it continue as your mental energy will be set to negative.  Let it itch, let it itch and itch and just say to yourself "do your worst, i don't care any more"  It itches because you have instantly reacted fearfully and the old catastrophising cycle has come out.  Anxiety likes to switch from one issue to the next.  Once time has washed the power of one illness away, another takes it's place.  You can imaging anxiety saying "ok, lets try this one" as it switches on the itching sensations.

Same here. It's been so bad, on many occasions, that I've practically caused light bleeding from scratching a particular spot so much / so hard. Feet, hands, abdomen, neck, face, back, legs, etc.
