Scared of oral cancer cant get over it

Recommended Posts

I try so hard to let it go but a new syptom appears every day. First i had a sore tongue for months. Then a lump in throat feeling for well over a year. Then jaw pain and ear pain. Well the lump in throat feeling has gone away but now my gums and inside of lip hurt. It doesn't make sence writting this but as soon i am done i will go back to living in dread. What do i do people.

Have you expressed your concerns with a dentist? Chances are, your anxiety is just getting the better of you.

You have been to your PCP and ent over this fear right? I think it's time to treat the root cause... Anxiety. Have you seen a therapist?

You really don't have what you fear but seems like you don't believe your drs.

You’ve gotten the all clear from doctors, dentist and ENT. It’s time to start believing them. Symptoms of cancer don’t jump around and get better over time or switch to another part of the mouth/throat. You have anxiety and need to work on that so you can believe what all the doctors have told you. You could have inflamed gums or something like that but it would be from something minor, not cancer. Like a seed stuck in your gums, an infected tooth, something easily treatable. See your dentist if it doesn’t get better, I’d give it until the end of the week if it isn’t affecting your eating or drinking.

I think you are tensed up from anxiety! Anxiety can make our bodies do all sorts of unpleasant things. Oral cancer is predominant in tobacco users and those with a family history of it. Live as healthy a lifestyle as you can and I assure you, everything will be fine! :)

No, you are not crazy. None of us with anxiety are crazy. All your symptoms are those of anxiety, nothing more. As Lugrad says you must start to believe the professionals. You had a lump in the throat and now you say it's gone. Well, isn't that a good indication of your problem? All that time worrying over something that never happened. The feeling of a lump in the throat is common in anxiety and can be very disconcerting. But all it is are the throat muscles tightening up because of fear which is always at the root of anxiety. Obviously, the more you worry about it the more it will upset you. Now it's not easy to accept what is happening, far from it. But you have been checked out and you can take comfort in that. You have to trust the medics. These days they just can't afford mistakes and if anything is suspicious they will surely follow it up. TRY and except, for the moment, how you feel and stop chasing your tail. Anxiety is only self perpetuating if we continue the cycle of worry/fear/feelings/anxiety!!

As others have pointed out, the symptoms of cancer do not come and go. A lump from cancer will never go away. Cancer, by definition, is an uncontrolled growth of cells, it cannot and will not ever get smaller or go away. If it does, that is simply not cancer. Period.

you aren't crazy. I think we all come to a point when the thoughts become overwhelming and take over and that's when we try other means to help the anxiety like therapy. Have you tried anything to help anxiety which is the cause to all of this for you?

I have tried getting help. And that was so hard for me. Its easy to pour my heart onto a web page without people seeing who is behind the pain. Well i finally said screw it i dont care about how much of man i am supposed to be in others eyes. But i will say this i didnt look around for a qualified therapist and it was horrible. It was all faith and religion based it might work for some but not me. It was offered through a program at work. But then i think i am getting over and bam back at it. The cyle never ends one or another it starts up again.
