Wasted years

Recommended Posts

I've been dealing with anxiety depression since I was 17 and because of my anxiety I haven't been able to live I'm agoraphobic  I haven't ever had friends or a relationship. I've tried to get help in my 20s and it I didn't work I saw a few therapists and medications none worked. Now I'm 30 and I finally found a therapist that Is helping but now I feel that it's too late. I worry I missed out on the fun years. I have a lot I want to do but feel it won't be the same as it would've if I was younger. I still think the same as I did when I was 17 which is last time I lived. I still find guys attractive but now they are younger I don't find guys my age attractive and I don't know what to do about it. I worry about looking old before I even lived in afraid that time is going by too fast and I don't want that. I feel because my age I'm on timeline where I have to have things done before I'm really old. I hate this I am finally getting help and now I feel it's too late and idk what to do if anyone has any advice please tell me I feel so down

It is never too late. The key is that you feel better and you can move onward and upward, without looking back.

I feel down myself sometimes. I have cried. Try to occupy yourself with things you enjoy. I find if my mind is occupied, I worry less.

Hi Worrygirl. I think most of us have exactly the same fears, even people who do not suffer from anxiety or depression have doubts and regrets, it's our human nature. It's obvious you have a strong will to thrive, and this is very good. You are working on getting better, and that's really all we are capable of, isn't it? You are in the very prime of life, and you will be for decades to come.   I myself have spent decades dealing with anxiety and depression and I wish I could get them back, but that is water under the bridge now. What it has taught me is that that MOST important thing is the PRESENT, because it is all I have. I could, and I have, spent (wasted) countless hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades, regretting the very thing I was DOING, wasting even MORE time.

Be grateful, WG, that you are STILL so young to be aware of your reality; it is a gift to be aware. now, you can do something about it. I wish I had been your age when I realized I'd been wasting so much precious time, worrying, living in fear...

Please believe You have every reason to be optimistic...don't look back. I wish you well. God Bless You.

My mother used to say to me (may she rest in peace), life is what you make it.

I can relate to this, WG. We're around the same age. I haven't done a lot of what I'd have liked to at this point in life.

My wife has a cousin who is now 68. He lived with his mother until she died. He now lives by himself with his dog. He does  not suffer from anxiety at all. He suffers from the inabilty to spend money. He lives in a small townhouse that is sparsely furnished. He wears a terrible toupee. He wears cheap clothing and drives an old car. He never goes on vacation. He has never been married or had a steady girlfriend. He never eats out. He is a retired government employee with a big fat pension. He is worth millions. He suffers from being a tightwad, cheapskate, etc. He does not suffer from anxiety. He does go to the gym daily. Now that is what I would call a wasted life and not yours.

Start now. Oh and by the way, there's plenty of 20 year old guys out there who would be interested in you. Just do what you want and don't worry about what society makes you "think" people your age should be doing. If you feel ready to try some things, then go for it. Good luck
