EC76 3 Posted December 27, 2016 Dear All, As many here I am a victim, of all this weird sensation that can appear form nowhere. Yesterday night without been anxious or anything I woke up in the middle of the night feeling sun burned on my arms and back!!, I could sleep and symptoms have persisted. My neurologist did and MRI on my brain and said I was o.k. and again he blamed the anxiety. I always in fear or MS or ALS…. Please help me understand: 1.- Can I have anxiety symptoms even thou I was feeling calm? 2.- Can the results or MRI give me peace for MS or ALS 3.- I also started LExapro yesterday, can this be a cause for the sudden burning at night. I took it almost 12 hours before going to bed. Thank you!!!!
Gilly 1086 Posted December 27, 2016 Hi EC76 1 - Yes, definitely 2 - Yes, definitely 3 - Yes, definitely I had the sunburn feeling very frequently, it was what MADE me anxious and led me down the neuro disease fear path. It was my very first symptom that was not 'classic', it didn't happen when I was anxious, it started on my lower legs but moved about and at times I had it all over. Over stimulated hyper active, confused nerves. Try not to worry, I know.. easier said than done but it will get better.
JOYCICLE 654 Posted December 27, 2016 Even when we are not consciously aware of ' anxiety' , once we get into the habit of it our nervous system is always aware of it.
EC76 3 Posted December 27, 2016 Thank you all for the time you give all of us in need of some comfort. Still Confuses me if i had a pleasant day, went so sleep in peace and wake up 1am feeling sun burned!! How can that happen? And why it doesn’t go away. Was my neurologist and PD wrong? Should i have another MRI? I want to be in peace but how if we are all victims of those intrusive thoughts, and after months i decided to start medication and this is the result?? Shelby934 20 Posted December 28, 2016 Ugh the burning sensations are the worst. But i know everytime I get that feeling in my shoulders I know for a fact its my anxiety. Then I can start calming myself down knowing thats all it is. I sometimes get symptoms when I'm not feeling overly anxious. Usually its me subconsciously being stressed. JOYCICLE 654 Posted December 28, 2016 Burning sensations are a pretty common experience. Your doctor checked you and you are fine. Work on the thinking and let the body do its thing.
EC76 3 Posted December 28, 2016 Update:: I went to my neurologist again!!!!!! He now gave me tough love, stay on the Lexapro, and give time for it to work (2 days is far for enough) or you will need to look for a different professional. I don’t blame him I have been driving him crazy, going almost every week… He reassures me that the symptoms are anxiety related but I am fixated with MS or all those types of things. Despite the OK on my MRI of the brain now I am thinking he should also MRI my upper back to be more sure, I am going down the same hole again…….. The sun burn feeling in my upper back and arms is driving me crazy, now I am also in fear that my doctor will quit on me. I have a wife at home not feeling well with a complicated pregnancy and need to be 100%!!!, as my doc said today, “I need to get my S together” and take the bull by the horn, but how ??? If you could FIXATE on your mental health instead, you would see real improvements. You're fixating on something that cannot help you. In the meanwhile the literal problem, your anxiety, is running loose and free because no one is addressing it. FIXATE on the solution, my friend~

Bobnnat 496 Posted December 29, 2016 Hi, EC; First, these are wise responses thus far so please heed them. Frequently the body stores up its stressors and then at some point has to release them. Just like the tea kettle. If your body decides it's time to release your stress, it's going to do so, whether you're in an anxious state of mind or not. When I would have panic attacks, they would come after an episode of anxiety, days later. Many people who are subject to migraines say they get migraines days after a stressful event and not while the stress is going on. A neck/upper back MRI is not scary in as far as what it looks for. It's checking for herniated discs and the like which can cause pain. The brain MRI I understand rules out MS so you're clear there. As for ALS, just don't go there, EC. It's exceptionally rare and it's characterized by what you can't do; can't turn a key in a door, can't rise from a seated position, can't hold a coffee mug, etc. Take care, and I like the way so many people chime in on posts. That's something that didn't always happen at AZ. Bob

I been trying to understand for the last months that it is my body reacting to the anxiety, it just that it presents in so many weird and scare ways, from burning to pinching to aching, etc!! EC76 3 Posted December 31, 2016 Hi Guys. Bad case of upper back burning, trying to relax and watch some TV but is not working. . Please help!
Theo 2 Posted December 31, 2016 EC, I posted in another thread what's going on with me but, I'm trying to relax watching TV as well. I'm trying to take an Occam's Razor approach. Anxiety is the simplest explanation as hard as it is to believe. It's not easy but I'm trying to hold on to that tonight at least.
Stephanie 60 Posted December 31, 2016 Did the burning start after you started Lexapro? I read that it can be a side effect. This is one reason I don't take any antidepressants for my anxiety. I've tried several and they all gave me bad side effects. I take a very small dose of Xanax when I'm having a hard time calming down. This is a rare occurrence though. Take some deep breaths, take a warm bath or maybe try some herbal tea.
EC76 3 Posted December 31, 2016 The burning came before the lexapro, i am on a very small dosage. My neurologist told me not to worry on the med and that anxiety is causing somatization of symptoms whatever that means.
EC76 3 Posted December 31, 2016 My neurologist sent me for a mri of the brain to re asure me that i didn't have ms, results were normal. But Becouse of the persistent burning feeling i am still scary of ms. I found online that sometimes it needs also a mri on the back to complete it clear, my doc told me is very unlikely but i am still scare. Please any feedback. ... Somatization means created by the mind, psychosomatic, that is what HA is, it's a somatoform disorder. I advise ceasing reading about MS, or ALS or any other neurological disease online, all you are doing is giving your creative mind more ammunition continuing the cycle of fear>symptoms>more fear>worsening/more symptoms The number 1 cause of burning skin is stress. Anxiety and stress go hand in hand. It can worsen when starting meds, it can start to happen when starting meds, this is because your body is adjusting to the medication and it can be over stimulated until this adjustment settles down. Mike L 86 Posted January 1, 2017 Yes to all! ALS IS SO SO SO RARE! Your issues are anxiety only. An MRI can see masses as small as 2mm" I believe. A conmon indication of anxiety is feeling like you have a fever and a normal temperature. Nothing you've said is ALS related. Your fine!!!
