JungleJulia 235 Posted April 19, 2016 Lately I've been struggling with this symptom a lot. I got tested for a UTI 2 months ago and the test came back clear. The symptoms came back a week ago. Im still waiting on results again but its put my life at a standstill. Im terrified of infection or any other issue. I'm also terrified of suffering this symptom long term. The doctor said it may be anxiety too. Its feels like pressure on my bladder. Then I go to the bathroom and sometimes normal, and sometimes just a tiny bit. No pain or burning though so not a typical UTI Its so uncomfortable though and I'm barely going anywhere because of it. Im struggling to write my assignments for university because my focus is so bad.
Mark G 1187 Posted April 19, 2016 terrified of infection or any other issue Thats why it's happening Julia. Your bladder is controlled by muscles, focus on these muscles creates awareness and also interferes with the signal to the brain, so it will feel like you need to keep going to the toilet. The sensation of the muscle which controls the bladder is misinterpreted as the signal to go to the toilet. The more the focus, the more you feel the need. I've had this myself before and started to get pain also. It's muscular in nature and the fear of it locks it in. Dr's say it's fine, no infection so worrying about a possible future infection is anxieties bluff to keep the sensation in place. Im struggling to write my assignments for university because my focus is so bad EXACTLY
Mrsrpmddo 222 Posted April 19, 2016 Hi jungle Julia. I have the same thing. I've had it for monthes. Doctor did urine test. No infection. My bladder feels full a lot. I go to the bathroom a lot. I really think it's anxiety. I know when I focus on it it feels worse. I hope you feel better soon
jonathan123 2368 Posted April 19, 2016 Well now, there's an odd thing. So have I. Now at my age it's usually down to prostate trouble. (That little gland has a lot to answer for). But I have had the op. Now this may or may not make you laugh. I recently had a setback and took 5 AD's. I read in the blurb that the side effects can be urine retention and since then I have had it. Honest! Now I know it's all about not being able to release the sphincter muscles, (that control peeing), because of anxiety. Went to docs but could find no problem. It's a delicate subject I know, but I just stand there and nothing happens. This is because I feel I want to go but there's nothing there. This bloody anxiety business affects everything. I know when I focus on it it feels worse. I hope you feel better soon. (Mrsrpmddo). Yes, that's just what happens. We focus our minds on the problem and it becomes a reality. 'Letting go' is what we must do but, oh boy, how difficult. Jon.
JungleJulia 235 Posted April 19, 2016 Thank you all, so much, I woke up so anxious again and just waiting for the feeling (I know this will not help!!!). I will hopefully have the recent test results today. Since the first test was clear, its pretty likely going to be the same. Its just such a frustrating symptom because its so hard to ignore. Im trying my best to distract myself but its persistent. I keep thinking "no way this could be anxiety, the feeling is so strong!" but then I remember earlier in the year my chest tightness, and heart palps, I thought it had to be more than anxiety then too, and that one proved to be nothing. Sorry that you all have had similar issues It really sucks!! But I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one. Its one of the lesser talked about symptoms. Most books on anxiety that I've read may touch on the urge to urinate more, but they dont go into much detail about the feelings. The first doctor I saw said that anxiety can't cause that symptom, the second doctor said that it could. It makes it harder when lots of doctors dont know much about anxiety.. Mark G 1187 Posted April 20, 2016 "no way this could be anxiety, the feeling is so strong!" It's a trap, anxiety is far more powerful that you could ever imagine, it's power is dictated by your fear of it's consequence. In fact, it's power is almost limitless. If you meditate, you will be aware of how you can conjure up a scene to such a clarity, that it feels like you are there, the smells, the feeling, the sun on your face. Your mind has created this scene and has placed you within it. If your mind is powerful enough to do this, and consider the fact that anxiety manifests and has full control over this powerful brain/mind, is it of any surprise that when tilted negatively, the mind can create these powerful, scary symptoms? Most books on anxiety that I've read may touch on the urge to urinate more, but they dont go into much detail about the feelings. With me it felt like a uti, that strong urge to go. Thats your sphincter muscle in spasm due to your conscious awareness of it. It makes it harder when lots of doctors dont know much about anxiety.. It certainly does, they are taught a basic understanding of it but not in depth. (generally)
JungleJulia 235 Posted April 20, 2016 Thank you Mark. It really helps to know that other people have felt what I'm feeling. You're so right about how powerful the mind is. Its actually amazing. I try to remind myself that if my mind is so powerful that it can make me feel terrible, it has the equal capacity to make me feel fantastic. I just need to retrain it
jonathan123 2368 Posted April 20, 2016 Basic Mark! I doubt they even get that far! For a doctor to say that it can't be caused by anxiety is not just ignorance it's incompetence. Idiot!!! Before I, and many others, go to the dentist or some traumatic event, the urge to pee is often quite strong. Well it is with me!! How did we get on this subject? . It's your fault, JJ. . But, you have to admit, it is interesting, and good to know that others suffer that way too. Not That I would wish that on anyone. Jon.
