Telling my teacher about my panic attacks and anxiety

Recommended Posts

I've been having a lot of anxiety lately and my panic attacks have been more frequent especially during school. I feel trapped and don't know what to do. I kind of want to tell one of my teachers I trust, but I'm absolutely terrified. (Ps our counselor sucks) Any advice?

I think its great you have a teacher you trust so much and want to tell him/her. Its natural and very normal to be terrified of doing it. Honestly, you don't have anything to be terrified or worried about. I know me saying that won't make those feelings go away or make any of it easier. If you really trust your teacher then I think you should do it. Your teacher might be able to help you and offer good advice. You might even feel that bit better after taking that big step. If you end up deciding not to do it, don't worry about it. And just remember there are people here who will always be willing to help and give you advice and talk whenever you need to.  All the best :).

Hi. Kiirsti. Welcome to AC. :).

Yes, Catherine is right. If you feel your teacher can be trusted then go by your intuitive feelings and talk to her/him. The important word here is trust. Never discuss your problem with anyone you feel uncertain about. When in anxiety we often feel like talking to anyone. Don't!  It IS natural to feel apprehensive and uncertain. That's anxiety. Have you any idea what has 'triggered' your panic? You have become 'sensitised' for some reason. It may have been a domestic upset or anything.  It can also come 'out of the blue' although there is always an underlying cause. Come back and talk whenever you want. We are here for you and we listen. Have a good browse around the site and see how others have coped. Good luck.    Jon.

Hi Kiirsti.  If it's a teacher you trust then absolutely talk to them!  You might find that just knowing that at least someone at school knows what you are dealing with will help you to feel less alone and your anxiety may ease a little.

Are you in high school?  I had a lot of problems with anxiety and panic attacks during middle and high school.  I survived (I'm in my 40's now!) and you will too.  Feel free to PM me.  Maybe I can help?

TO MESSAGE SOMEONE.

Click on the white envelope at the top of the Forum page, Click in top right of the box 'Compose New'. Enter profile name of the person you want to message. i.e. Sunnybunny.  Enter subject.  For instance 'my problem' or such like. That will be the title of your message and the recipient can answer under that title also. Type your message and press 'Send'. If after you read it again and have made a mistake you can edit it my clicking on 'Edit' at the bottom of the message. After any Edit click 'Save' and that's it. Good luck.     Jon.
