Asbestos Exposure

Recommended Posts

Hello,
A few days ago I helped a friend take down a wall in his home. It is a 1940’s home. We wore N95 masks and demolished a wall. Lots of dust and debris everywhere. The wall was made of plaster and had weird insulation bits in it. We were there for about 2-3 hours.

I am worried about asbestos exposure. Is that considered long term exposure? Have I just given myself cancer? I feel so bad that I agreed to help, haven’t slept or eaten well in last 2 days.

Hey wingo, as said in the other forum, it's definitely not considered long term exposure, you'll be fine, try not to panic, keep yourself distracted and you'll be a-okay ❤️

My husband was exposed to loose asbestos daily for several years.  He now has COPD, asthma and emphysema but it takes 20 to 30 years for fibers to cause problems AND you had on a mask. Jim is now 74.  He was exposed in the last 1960's/ 1970's.

No concerns.

No worries as you would need exposure over a long period of time. A client of mines wife many years ago used to wash her fathers clothes that were covered with asbestos over many years and she eventually got asbestosis and passed away. I believe her father worked in the shipyards, but I could be wrong. Her husband got a multi-million dollar settlement due to her death.

Thank you for the reply.  How many years did your husband work?

Thanks Marc.  I don't know why I am worried so much.  There were 2 other people there with us and they are not worried one bit.  Health anxiety is killing me now.  I was good for like a year too and now all of a sudden it is back again from this one experience.  May I ask what you do as a job?
