Spazmom 19 Posted July 19, 2021 I spent the entire day cleaning up deer mouse poop all over the place and found his nest under my sink. We are minimalists and our home is spotless, but we have a wood pile outside so I think one of my kids left a door open maybe. Here nor there - BUT it got in our pantry, where we keep silverware just everywhere. So I cleaned it all up with bleach and wore an N95 mask to clean the nest under the sink which was littered with poop and urine. we caught the mouse a week ago on Monday. Everything online says the virus can last maybe 3 days in the dark/room temp. It’s been 7 days. I live in west Texas, not the panhandle and we’ve never had a case here but I can’t help but panic. Obviously. I have kids and I’m just so afraid and waiting 8 weeks to find out if I’m symptomatic is just insane. Help me feel better? I kind of am having trouble functioning…. Spazmom 19 Posted July 19, 2021 Lol maybe everyone thinks I’m ridiculous! I lost 4 lbs the last two days not eating over this. Does anyone know if I can get tested for this so early?
PennyPanic 276 Posted July 19, 2021 For what it's worth, I don't think you're ridiculous. Of course, I'm in the middle of my own HA spiral...so there's that. I don't know anything about mice or deer mice specifically. Why not call your gp?
MARC 431 Posted July 19, 2021 We had mice in our house in the winter. They got into some of our food and there was mouse poop in quite a few places. I set out mouse traps with peanut butter and in 2 days we caught 2 mice. The chance of you getting sick from them is minimal, so I would not be concerned. Spazmom 19 Posted July 19, 2021 I made an appt Thursday to get blood work done who knows. It’s like such a rare thing but I am absolutely spiraling y’all. My HA hasn’t been this bad in 2 ys!
Spazmom 19 Posted July 19, 2021 Trying not to panic but now I have lower back pain. It could be my period coming but it’s prettt intense!
Ironman 198 Posted July 20, 2021 I would think by now, you'd be okay, even if the mouse had it to begin with. Symptoms would have come up. You used an N95 mask, so should be fine. The rest is self-inflicted from worry.
Spazmom 19 Posted July 21, 2021 That’s my huge concern is the incubation is 1-8 weeks! I feel like having HA will make every day of that 8 weeks 100 hours long. I hate when this happens. It’s so ridiculous but consuming right? I’ve now lost 8 lbs since Sunday. I am unable to eat and I know it’s irrational but like how do you move on and say it’s probably not going to happen to you right?
AriaRen 19 Posted July 21, 2021 What virus is it you think you might have gotten? I find it really helpful to imagine what I'd say to someone else if they had my fears. So for talking sake, if I'm scared of a brain tumor because I have persistent headaches, I'll argue back with myself about it, like maybe it's because you barely drink water and don't sleep until 3am every night, haha. You're losing weight because you aren't eating properly due to anxiety, you're getting a sore back etc probably due to being tense thanks to the anxiety, it's all explained by rationale, so don't worry yourself and have a good meal ❤️
Spazmom 19 Posted July 21, 2021 Worried about hanta virus after cleaning up rat waste all over my house and his nest under my sink while we were at the beach for a week. It was evvverywhere. And when we caught him - it was a deer mouse which is the carrier. There’s never been a case in my town in west Texas but there have been an hour north of here and the panhandle. I’m just so freaked and the incubation is 1-8 weeks.
Spazmom 19 Posted July 21, 2021 Also brain tumors are scary and kind of common so I get that fear you have!! But malignant ones are so uncommon and usually caused by another cancer that’s spread so you’d already know if you were at risk!
MARC 431 Posted July 21, 2021 My physician told me the usual first sign of a brain tumor are seizures.
Ironman 198 Posted July 21, 2021 Worrying about it isn't going to change anything at this point. It isn't going to speed up any process. Is Hanta really that easy to get? The mouse would have to have it. I would be more afraid of something like rabies than Hanta. I don't think you are going to develop brain tumors from having a mouse in your house. I have caught over 20 mice in the past several years. I have cats hanging around my house; they rabie me out! Hanging out in my backyard, trying to get their freak on.....get out of my yard; I don't run a cat house and I am not a cat pimp! They can go after mice is I don't see them lol.
