Coughing out Blood ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

This morning when I woke up, I cleared my throat . The kind where you like sniff from your nose and some of it gets to your throat and then spit it out . When I spit it out, I saw blood but mixed with phlem not sure if it was phlem or just discharge from my nose . Maybe my nose was bleeding but it went to my throat as I sniffed ?

I just checked my nose right now and it has blood in it .

Help, I'm really scared .

The air can be quite dry during the colder months or if there is heat or AC on. This happens to me often during the winter.  Nothing to worry about. Perhaps try a neti pot if you have one or use a humidifier.

Is it normal if it's fully covered with blood ? It's not like a dot of blood, it's almost all blood .

It can be. You didn’t cough up blood from your chest/lungs. If it came from your nose, you had a light bleed or blew it hard enough to make it bleed.

Blood from the sinuses definitely occurs in dry weather.  I had a bit of that and I even have a humidifier attached to my furnace to moisten the air to 37%!  I even had it clotted with mucus.

Blood came from your nose.  Nothing to be concerned about - address what's causing it.  Is your area dry?  Are you allergies bad?  Have you been picking your nose a lot (yes, this actually happens).
