AriaRen 19 Posted January 9, 2021 Bit TMI, sorry in advance 😅  I've been taking some antibiotics recently, and I thought you could drink on them, but I learnt last night you can't...had a few drinks and ended up incredibly ill, vomiting a lot. Today I've felt okay, bit hungover but nothing major, but I just went to the toilet, and my stool was incredibly dark. Not quite black, but definitely dark dark brown. I looked it up, and a lot of things say it could indicate internal bleeding, so I'm scared I've really damaged my stomach with how violently sick I was. I've not eaten/drank anything black, taken any iron supplements, or anything for heartburn which can apparently cause it, so I'm just a little scared. I'm not in any pain. Any opinions?
Ironman 198 Posted January 9, 2021 You would vomited blood if something was really wrong. At worst, the poo may be from either taking or not taking antibiotics. Remember, lower digestion does involve bacteria, so the antibiotics would probably have changed the contents. Just be careful - it doesn't sound like anything happened if you are okay now. You puke, you learn. lol
MARC 431 Posted January 10, 2021 My wife is a pharmacist and she said you should not drink alcohol while on antibiotics as it can cause side effects like vomiting and diarrhea. She said don't drink a few days after your done either.
Nat1996 23 Posted January 10, 2021 I have very dark stools every now and again and it's just normal for me. I also was an alcoholic and have drank while taking many antibiotics (not smart, I know but addiction doesn't care) and nothing horrible has happened other than the things Marc mentioned; vomiting and diarrhea along with dizziness and stomach pain. I would say you're probably fine! ZenCube 59 Posted January 10, 2021 It's not so much the color that's concerning but the fact the tools appear tarry. Melena is characterized by not dark but rather black stools, tarry and that always have a horrible smell to them. In doubt, check it with your GP but what you discribe doesn't read like melena, just darker than usual bowel movment which is of no concern really.
