davide.h 26 Posted November 19, 2020 I've lost around 20 lbs since the pandemic started 8 months ago. Yes, I've been trying to lose weight. I walk regularly and have a pretty sparse diet, so it could be just that, but it still seems like a lot to lose. And certainly I have not been perfect. I've eaten high calorie foods in that time and also gone without the regular walks too, but I'm still scared. It don't feel any healthier. I saw yet another doctor today, for an unrelated issue, but had to leave early because I was freaking out so much over this. Please help. 😫
Nat1996 23 Posted November 19, 2020 20 pounds in eight months is totally fine, even 30 pounds in 8 months would be healthy weight loss given you’re losing about a pound a week. Even if you slip up sometimes with your diet, as long as your body was still in a caloric deficit you would be losing weight regardless of what you’re eating. You may not feel any healthier due to not fuelling your body with appropriate nutrients (I don’t know what you’re eating every day so I’m not saying that’s the case for sure) because you definitely don’t need to eat perfectly to lose weight as long as you’re burning more than you’re eating. Of course I’m not a doctor but generally I don’t think weight loss is a sign of something dangerous unless you lose a ton really quickly when you’re not actively trying or if you have accompanying symptoms. I would say if you’re trying to lose weight and it’s working then that’s awesome!
davide.h 26 Posted November 19, 2020 Thank you for sharing Nat. 20 was a guess. I was in the 210's when I began and am in the 190's now. And in the last few weeks I've had such severe anxiety that it's killed my appetite. Lots of stuff easy on the stomach. Oatmeal, yogurt, sushi, fruit (especially bananas) but will treat myself to a vegan pizza on occasion now that I've found a place that delivers. It was just when the doctor said my weight, lost four pounds in the span of about 2 weeks. Seemed abnormal but it might not be. Either way, it scared me. Nat1996 23 Posted November 19, 2020 Totally valid! I really hope I didn’t make you feel like I was invalidating your worry at all because that wasn’t my intention. It makes total sense to see a drop like that when you aren’t eating many calories in the run of a day especially if you’re still walking quite regularly. Our weight can fluctuate a ton depending on our lifestyle choices and I really hope you get to enjoy celebrating yourself for losing the weight if that’s your goal 🙂
davide.h 26 Posted November 19, 2020 Oh you didn't. Not at all. You made me feel better. I used to be a member of a gym but haven't gone since March. I guess I am skeptical that just going for walks can have a significant impact on weight loss.
Iugrad91 501 Posted November 20, 2020 A half a pound a week (which is about what you averaged) is perfectly normal and healthy rate to lose weight. If you lose it faster, you’re more likely to put it back on again. Slow and steady wins the race. Congrats for the loss! It’s not easy to do.

My spike in anxiety over the last few weeks has made me eat lightly. That's probably why. But I'm still so scared. I've already seen my doctor a lot this year. I don't want him to not take me seriously. 😥
