Is anyone else horrified of getting the flu? I’m not only scared for my self but for my two kids. I got them the flu shot but I couldn’t bring myself to take it because I have a very irrational fear of allergic reactions (even though I’m allergic to NOTHING). Seems like all they talk about this time of year is how many people are dead from flu related illnesses. Scares me to death. My daughter had it in 2017 and she completely recovered in 5 days thank god but my 5 year old is prone to getting pneumonia and I worry about him alot. Tomorrow it’s their first day back at school and I do not want to send them at all. If I had my way I’d keep them home the whole flu season.

I'd recommend you get the flu shot if not to protect yourself but to protect others. There are certain immune compromised patients that can not get the flu shot, you can be a carrier of the flu and not even know it, and pass it onto them and make them deathly ill. Your kids even with the flu shot are at more of a high-risk chance of catching the flu without you having the shot.

Me and you are the same person haha. I’m terrified of flu, I will hardly let anyone come to my house during flu season, I also won’t get shot cause of my fear of allergic reactions.

Haha. I hear ya. I was so scared at Christmas when all my family was at my house for a week that someone was going to get the flu and then everyone was going to have it. I kept spraying disinfectant everywhere and put out bottles of hand sanitizer on all the tables. 🤣

Deaths from the flu aren't the norm, hence the media report those deaths often. I've never known anyone personally for as long as I've lived who's died from the flu, elderly and very young alike. And most people I know have had the flu more than once.

Oh Yes!!! It's the old journalist's phrase that comes to mind. 'Good news is not news' !! We rarely hear of the thousands of good results from the medics who perform some often miraculous operations, but when something goes wrong it's all over the front page. We are a funny old lot and no mistake.

I try to completely avoid the news this time year and just check the weather on my phone. I hate the way they ramp up everything and try to scare people.

Any bad news makes headlines and is talked about continuously. There was a study done once where only good news was reported on and no one watched or listened to it.
