Cowboymo 8 Posted July 30, 2019 On saturday i peed a dark brownish/reddish murky pee. i FREAKED OUT. went to urgent care and they took a urine sample and found blood in my urine but the doctor didnt seem concerned saying she thinks most likely its a kidney stone. But I am still freaking out. I have not had visible blood in my urine since that day and I spoke to my buddy who is a doctor who assured me he sees cases like that a lot and they arent as scary as one would think but i am still worried i have kidney issues or the C word :( ive been having on again and off again pain in my lower back, sides, stomach, and rib cage area which is all considered symptoms of a kidney stone but idk
mollyfin 366 Posted July 30, 2019 Two doctors have told you not to worry. I know easier said than done, but your anxiety doesn't hold a medical degree! What did the doctor at urgent care tell you to do?
Cowboymo 8 Posted July 30, 2019 She gave me some antibiortics and told me my urine was concentrated which means i dont drink enough water (i dont) so she said drink a lot of water and whatever it is should flush out but she thinks its a kidney stone but is not 100% sure without a CT scan. but still my mind goes to worst possible reason. Holls 1505 Posted July 30, 2019 I had microscopic blood in my urine for months. I also had UTIs off and on.. I was also put on antibiotics. My urgent care Dr thought it was a stone as well but after a CT scan and a bladder scope no cause was found. The urologist said I'll probably always test with microscopic blood in my urine and that's ok. Did you test positive for a UTI? Or kidney infection? adamden 58 Posted July 30, 2019 Like Molly said, if two doctors told you that you were fine, then you gotta trust them. I know it may seem hard, but there's no reason in doubting someone who's gone to school for that stuff. Stay on course with the antibiotics and hopefully you should clear up in no time. And idk what all they check for in a urinalysis but she didn’t mention kidney infection. She said her best guess is kidney stone and I guess that’s why I’m uneasy is she said her best guess not for certain.

I had many times that I didn't test positive for a UTI but still had the blood. Are you still seeing blood when you urinate?

No, it was just that one time Saturday morning. It’s been normal since then

Holls 1505 Posted July 31, 2019 Ok. Well I'd keep taking the antibiotic and just flow up with your regular PCP. I did Bec I had initially went to an urgent care. I prefer my PCP so I went straight back to her the next day lol.. she said working out really hard can also cause blood in urine.
Sallyhart 16 Posted July 31, 2019 I too had this issue and they sent me to a urologist...continuous UTIs like Holls. Urologist did a scan internal and external and found something funky with one of my tubes...nothing sinister but advised to drink plenty all of the time. Funny how my UTIs have stopped since I stopped thinking it was cancer. Feel better soon.
Cowboymo 8 Posted July 31, 2019 Just peed blood again this morning first time it happened since it happened Saturday and it wasn’t even a study stream of pee. It would go and stop. I’m freaking out and thinking of going to the ER
AndrewF 37 Posted July 31, 2019 Tell them you want an ultrasound of your kidneys. They'll either find stones, or whatever is doing it. That's an easy check. my MIL had only *one* incident of hematuria, but hypo she is she followed up. She had 'something' growing on her kidney. Now, it was removed and that was 8 years ago in fact.... It wasn't exactly cancerous but was on its way to being so, to the point it took them 4 weeks to path it. Likely in your situation, no. Get an ultrasound and be sure. 👍
Holls 1505 Posted July 31, 2019 I went to the e.r. when I was having pain. I had the microscopic blood..they will probably do a CT scan to see if they can find a stone. That's what a urologist would order anyway. Then they will tell you to see a urologist so go ahead and call and make an appointment.. let them know what's going on so you can get in.. then take any records from the e.r. if you go. I skipped the step of having the urologist sending me for the scan lol I'm impatient. I also had to have a bladder scope by the urologist and it wasn't bad the best thing is you get results right then and there . Then it's all over. It's going to be ok.
MARC 429 Posted August 1, 2019 My friend urinated bright red blood for a month on and off and no cause was ever found. It stopped suddenly on it's own. I once urinated blood and a small stone popped out of my penis. It felt really weird and it went away on it's own. My physician examined me and it was theorized it was all caused by a stone. Cowboymo 8 Posted August 1, 2019 Blood work all cane back normal. They did a CT and found a 2mm stone under my right kidney and gave me meds to help pass it and told me if it doesn’t pass to go see a urologist. I’m just relieved the blood and urine tests were clear
MARC 429 Posted August 1, 2019 I am glad it was nothing serious!
Bobnnat 496 Posted August 1, 2019 Thank goodness you didn't have to undergo a scope. While it's generally not too bad for women (due to the anatomy) it can be a nightmare for men. Count your lucky stars!
adamden 58 Posted August 1, 2019 Glad to hear it’s just a stone and nothing more serious. Good luck with the rest!
Cowboymo 8 Posted August 1, 2019 Does anyone know what they are checking when they do Blood and urine labs? and I know the CT scan checks for kidney stones which it found one, but what else does a CT scan of the kidneys show them?

Urine labs will show blood, infection, proteins etc . I never questioned what the CT scan showed.. when I heard all clear I was like awesome, I'm outta here and not looking back lol. I'm sure it's just confirming normal kidney function and, no tumors etc..
