Meghansherf 8 Posted January 15, 2019 Hey guys! So lately I've been feeling like I may have ALS as ridiculous as it sounds. My brain has been in a fog, I have muscle weakness, I've been stumbling over my words and the icing on the cake...I stood up from sitting at my desk at work and my leg gave out. Now I'm freaking out. Please tell me somebody out there has had symptoms like this? I'm most concerned with my leg giving out. Thanks!!

I was an als worrier..almost two years in 🙄😥 i still sometimes get triggered... you don't have als. Stumbling over words is NOT als. Brain fog is not a symptom at all Muscle weakness is not the same weakness in als. They have clinical weakness as in the fail and fall. Legs giving out isn't als.. I'd definitely let this fear go now and fast Bec it grabs ahold fast..
Meghansherf 8 Posted January 15, 2019 Thank you for responding so quickly. Even just hearing reassurance like that makes me feel better. I'm a chronic HA worrier. My 3 biggest fears are ALS, ovarian cancer and brain aneurysms. I cannot seem to get over it!!!

I had an ovarian fear.. my Dr was awesome, she told me it's very rare in women who are still menstrating. That calmed my fears super quick. Hugs. One step at a time.
Meghansherf 8 Posted January 16, 2019 I just couldn't get over my leg giving out. I was like ok this just confirms my fears 😑 I've spent thousands on trips to the ER, MRI's Drs apt etc on my health anxiety. I hate it

Meghansherf 8 Posted January 16, 2019 I'm having random muscle twitches all over my body as well. Still freaky and hard to believe it could be anxiety
Iugrad91 501 Posted January 16, 2019 Just search twitching on this website and you’ll see how many people have twitching as a symptom of anxiety. I’d guess most of us have had it at one point or another even if we haven’t posted about it.
Meghansherf 8 Posted January 16, 2019 I met with a neuro last week who did a physical exam/basic tests and said I'm perfectly normal but didn't do an EMG. Do you think I should stop worrying if the physical exam was fine? She was seeing me for my daily headaches I didn't tell her about my ALS fears so idk if the physical exam would be different
Iugrad91 501 Posted January 16, 2019 Yes you are fine. Several people who have visited their doc for ALS fears said the doc told them they could see ALS a mile away. It’s not subtle. And it doesn’t start with twitching.
clearhead 129 Posted January 16, 2019 EMG is not necessary. Good news.

She is a specialist who looks for other things as well. She didn't see anything wrong..

Yes muscle cramping, stiffness, soreness can all be attributed to anxiety.
Slttry 3 Posted January 18, 2019 @Meghansherf hey! I’ve been having the als fear for a month now - started with muscle twitching. But my hands and feet have been cramping for a week and half now. I’m sure it anxiety. Are you still experiencing cramping?
Meghansherf 8 Posted January 21, 2019 yes! It's gotten worse. I have cramping in my calves and thighs and occasional cramps in my feet. The left side of my body feels weak and my hand specifically feels very weak today :( The twitching is a tiny bit better since I've moved on to worrying about the cramping
Slttry 3 Posted January 21, 2019 @Meghansherf same thing here. All I can feel is tightening in my hands and feet
Meghansherf 8 Posted January 21, 2019 I have an apt next week to get an EMG just to clear my worries. ALS and ovarian cancer have always been my two biggest fears. I just need a clean bill of health so I can stop worrying. I'm really not the type to second guess test results like alot of people. I know that I'll be able to move on if I can just know I'm ok!
