  1. Hello, everyone! I would like to start out by telling you a little bit about me. You can refer to me as Speechless. I am a young college student just trying to make it through my final year of undergrad. I am studying Social Work and Spanish (I have two majors). I would like to work with and counsel children and young adults who are facing psychological issues. Some of my hobbies include hanging out with friends, painting, scrapbooking, writing. In case you can't already tell, I really enjoy anything with art. I have always had issues with anxiety. I went through a traumatic event when I was 15 and almost lost my mother. Fortunately, she is still with us today. However, I learned at a very young age that things can change in an instant even when you least expect it. After that, I started having panic attacks and I developed some hypochondria. It took a lot of counseling and support for the panic attacks to stop. I thought I was good until 2013 when I had an anxiety relapse. I had a panic attack after 3 years of being nearly anxiety-free and it sent me into a year of uphill battles. Once again, I received counseling and I really believe that without the help of my counselor, I have no idea where I would be. Today I do get anxiety from time to time but I am better able to manage it than I was before. I used to really struggle with anxiety because even though I knew I wasn't alone, I sure felt like it. As part of one of my Social Work classes, we are required to join an online group and participate for 5 weeks so that is why I am here today. I wanted to pick a group that really pertained to me personally so I chose this one. I would like to help others who are going through something similar because when I was going through my anxiety high's and low's I felt like I had no one. With that being said, I am really looking forward to being a part of this group. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask me. I am not easily offended and I really try to get along with everyone.
  2. In my school instead of having a midterm in History we do volunteer work and then write a two page paper and do a PowerPoint presentation. I have really bad social anxiety and I am stressing about presenting my PowerPoint in front of everyone. The last time I did a presentation I almost fainted and I was visibly shaking and sweating. What's worse is I have to time what I say because the presentation has to be about 5 minutes long. My teacher said we're not supposed to read off of the slides so we should only put notes to remember what we're going to say. Also my teacher suggested putting pictures that we took while doing the volunteer work and just explain what we we're doing in the picture, which would be really easy if I didn't have social anxiety. I'm not going to remember anything I have to say, let alone time it because I'll be having a panic attack in front of everyone in my class. What's worse is none of my friends are in my History class, so I won't be able to focus on someone I'm comfortable with. I don't talk to anyone in my class, except for one girl who just wants me to pass notes to her friend and then she glares at me after class. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? I have been stressing and freaking out about this for a week now. I desperately need some advice on how to deal with this or better yet get out of doing it.
  3. I have on and off anxiety for since I was 14. Lately in school I have been having bad anxiety and mild panic attacks and i been not going to school for like 4 days. Everytime I think about entering the school I get all shaking. My anxiety has never been this bad. Does anyone have tips.
  4. My name's Leah. Little bit about me: I'm a sophomore in college majoring in Linguistics and minoring in Computer Science; I want to make language learning software. I already have a website in the works for it. I also speak in varying degrees of fluency Japanese, Korean, French, and German. As for my mental health... Basically, I've had bipolar disorder since I was 15, and anxiety just recently popped for me about two months ago. It seems like I was having withdrawals from a decrease in dosage of lamotrigine, and I just haven't really recovered. My anxiety just never went away despite the other symptoms disappearing. My anxiety has evolved into a form of hypochondriasis and I find it really hard to not ask for reassurance and that sort of thing. So I came here because I want to meet people who have the same problem and learn better how to cope with it. Nice to meet you.
  5. Hey all, I’m a social work student at The Ohio State University. I’m currently conducting undergraduate research on the usefulness of internet support groups in managing anxiety disorders. To aid in my research, I’m seeking adult members of support groups to complete an online survey about their experiences.
