  1. This is my favorite avocado recipe. http://www.twopeasandtheirpod.com/stovetop-avocado-mac-and-cheese/ I also really like adding avocado to my hummus. I will usually add half of an avocado and little bit of lemon juice to my hummus if I have an avocado in my kitchen. I like to radishes, but they often make my mouth feel hot. The avocado is very cooling, so it's great with radishes.
  2. I have had this problem as well. I usually find that I sleep more when I am experiencing depression. I have no desire to do anything with my day or to be productive in the least. This usually resulted in me going to bed at 5pm and waking up around lunch the following day. What is your diet like? Many people who sleep a lot do not seem to be getting the right nutrients or enough exercise. Taking daily vitamins, if you don't already, might help with this problem. Evening walks might help as well.
  3. I need some advice. In June, I went camping with several friends of mine. We only camped Friday and Saturday night. One of the women who was on our trip has OCD. (I was not aware of this at the time, but from my previous encounters with her, she did show signs. It just wasn't something I looked for.) I'm not sure what her OCD could even be defined as honestly. She seems to be a perfectionist. She stresses about exactness, order, control, washing/cleaning, germs, and just checking things. What she truly reminds you of is a "control freak," even though I don't generally like that term because I find it deragatory. Anyway, her OCD tendencies ruined several aspects of the trip. She snapped at people over small things (ex: soda cans laying horizontally in the cooler), became frustrated easily, and stormed off into the woods in the middle of the night. I'm still not sure what set her off to leave the way she did. Her husband never said when they returned. She and her husband have asked to go on another camping trip in August before she leaves for graduate school. I have real apprehensions about going myself. However, I also know that this will be probably be the last time I am able to see her before she leaves. If I do choose to go camping with them again, is there anything I can do to help ease some of her tensions? Or do you think it is better for me just not to go at all? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  4. I have often wondered about other cultures and their celebrity news. A lot of my friends in the states scoff at American media and journalism tactics, because of the way celebrity news often seems to take precedence over actual affairs and more important material. Do you think very many people feel this way about England?
  5. Do you follow celebrity gossip/news? You won't be judged by your answers, so please do not feel the need to defend yourself if your answer is "yes." Honestly, I'm just really curious. I would also love to know if there is any particular celebrity that you wish would go away, feel sorry for, etc. Has the news made you admire any particular celebrity? Celebrity news is a huge part of media in the USA, and it has turned into an outrageous and often cruel industry. Many of our headlines are filled with gossip surrounding popular stars' names, and sometimes, even their children's names. Has the celebrity news industry made you feel closer to America's celebrities or created an even further distance? I am very excited to read your responses!
  6. Hello Dregon! I would love to talk to you about books sometime. I am new at the forums as well, but so far, I really enjoy them. I love your avatar. Very cool.
  7. I am so glad that I saw this thread! I am currently living with the worst roommate of my life. (Even worse than my drug addicted cousin, whom I lived with for a short time.) Every day, there is something that my roommate does that frustrates me. What it mainly boils down to is just that she is dirty, a slob, etc. I am very bad with handling confrontation, so I have not addressed the issue with her. I keep telling myself that I am only living with her for two more weeks (until the end of July) and then I will be able to move out. Some of the things she does that bothers me? My roommate never puts up the dishes or cleans up after heself in the kitchen. She'll just leave food, trash, and utensils scattered all over the counter. She will drip sauces over the stove top, down the face of the oven, and onto the floor. One time, she left a plate of meat on the counter. I was disgusted. She also takes bowls/cups/plates/tupperware into her room and won't bring them back out again until they start to smell. Then, when my roommate actually does bring them out, they smell horribly! When I get home, the smelly dishes will be in the sink, and the entire apartment will wreak of rotting, spoiled food. Worse yet? Everything she uses in the kitchen is mine. She does not own her own kitchen supplies. She never takes out the trash or replaces the trash bag in the kitchen. If, for some reason, I do not have a trash bag in place. She will just throw things in the trash can for me to dig out later or leave her trash on the counter to draw gnats. We officially have a problem with flies in our apartment due to her poor habits. One of the biggest things she does that irks me is how when she carries things into the apartment, she'll drop some trash onto the floor, stop, look at it, shrug, and then just keep walking. It will literally be there for days unless I pick it up. It can be something as trivial as a wrapper, and she still won't pick it up and throw it away. I am so annoyed and crossing my fingers that I have the patience to continue dealing with her. I never considered myself a "neat freak" until living with her. Two... more... weeks...
  8. In the past year, I have been a regular attendent of a yoga class. I am even considering attempting to obtain my certification. What is your opinion of yoga? Have you ever tried it? Would you like to? Is yoga only for a specific type of person? Is it a waste of time at the gym? What are your apprehensions concerning yoga? Are you a regular member of a yoga class? Do you practice at home? I have been amazed and shocked by the different mindsets surrounding the practice of yoga, and I would love to know your feelings about it. Personally, I only do yoga for the physical benefits and to meet other people. I do not practice yoga for any type of spiritual reason, nor have I fulyl grasped the concept of meditation.
  9. Edward Scissorhands will probably always be my favorite Johnny Depp movie. I love the quirkyness of that film and the way he played his role. Most of the recent Tim Burton films have really put me on edge, I just don't enjoy them as much anymore. I really loved the Sweeney Todd character and the way Depp played the character, but I wasn't particularly fond of some of the other choices Burton made with the film.
  10. I am currently reading Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout. The book won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2009, and it is greatly deserving of the title. I am very close to finishing the novel, and I am greatly impressed by it. Basically, it is a collection of stories that involve a central character, Olive Kitteridge, in the small town of Crosby, Maine. While soem stories directly follow Olive, in others, she will only briefly. Very beautifully written. Highly recommended.
  11. I love cooking. I am still in the process of learning at the moment though. When I first moved away from home, I lived in a dorm without a kitchen. So I am just now getting the practice and experience I need. I am a great baker though! I love baking bread and other desserts. My recipes are usually tailored to one person though, since I only cook for myself. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/grandma-johnsons-scones/ Grandma Johnson's Scones is one of my favorite recipes. I usually exempt the raisins and make them plain. I also typically make them smaller to where you could three comfortably in the palm of your hand.
  12. Hello, everyone. You may call me Black. I read a lot and love to talk to about books. A lot of my time is spent alone. You can usually find me at my computer, in a library, or visiting a coffee shop. I look forward to meeting you all.
