ValerieAnne 0 Posted May 15, 2012 I have been thinking about going to a doctor to figure out what is wrong with me. Last time I went, I was told nothing was wrong with me though so I kind of feel like it would be a waste of time. Hopefully some of you can help me figure out what is wrong with me. Here are my symptoms: * Dizzy Spells - All the time. They happen mostly when I bend over to sign something for example. * Nervous, anxious, scared, worried when I get asked a question. It doesn't matter the question. I panic when I get asked a question. * Legs sting like I've gotten stung by something, for hours at a time. * Migraines - It feels like my head is going to explode. I get them about 1-2 times a week. I need pillows to make sure no light gets through and ear muffs to make sure no noise gets through. * Dry mouth. * Mood swings a few times a month. I am also depressed, I've never got diagnosis with it but my momma has and she says I'm worse than her in these areas. I'm just afraid to go get diagnosis with it. if anybody has any ideas I'd be very thankful.
Gilly 1086 Posted May 15, 2012 Hi Valerie Someone else with the stinging legs! I get that all the time it is so odd and uncomfortable. Have you had any tests? all of your symptoms could indeed be anxiety or stress related, getting dizzy when you bend over can also be low blood pressure. Did your doctor run any tests? Have you had your thyroid checked? May I ask how old you are? The only reason I ask is I am almost 41 and my symptoms all went crazy when I hit around 38. Hormones!! I am in perimenopause and one of the biggie symptoms is anxiety and panic, so you have a lovely mix of hormonal fluctuation symptoms and the anxiety symptoms that come from the anxiety produced by the fluctuations themselves. It's extremely confusing and no fun at all when you already suffer anxiety. Of course all of your symptoms may be an anxiety disorder alone, if you have a look at the 100 symptoms of anxiety list, its all there. I have had and still get every one you mention. I would make another appt with your doctor, get the basic tests to rule out something medical if you haven't already, thyroid, blood sugar etc. I get migraines too, they are truly awful, do you know if something triggers them? coffee, chocolate, cheese are common triggers for migraines, if you can figure that out its half the battle. As for a diagnosis, well personally I have never been 'professionally' diagnosed with anything myself other than anxiety. My doctor and therapist both said my anxiety was a result of childhood illness, trauma and stress but didn't label me with a specific disorder. Through educating myself I know I have GAD and PTSD, those have led to other aspects of anxiety, agoraphobia, panic a little health anxiety. I don't think its too important to have a specific diagnosis, its important to know there is nothing medically wrong and you can take it from there. Gilly 1086 Posted May 15, 2012 Here is the list of symptoms
Tecca_Nina 3 Posted May 15, 2012 That definitely sounds like some major anxiety. Hopefully you can find something that will help you overcome these things as I know none of them are fun at all.
ValerieAnne 0 Posted May 16, 2012 Thank you both. I have looked at that list and I've seen a few other things I have that I didn't even consider to be symptoms. I have been to the doctors and I've gotten all required blood work, thyroid tests completed and everything. I was told there is nothing wrong with me and I'm perfectly fine. The main reason I had the thyroid test was for my weight, since I'm about 70 lbs overweight, and can't seem to lose weight, even though I eat right and exercise almost daily. I don't drink soda, etc so it worried me. They actually had to give me the test twice and it came back fine both times. So, with all of the above and not being able to lose weight, it ignites my depression. I only take in about 1500 (if that) calories a day which is what I was told to eat, so for me doing all the right things and not losing anything stresses me out. a lot. Gilly 1086 Posted May 16, 2012 Valerie I'm also overweight. I'm 5' 6" and I weigh about 210, I gained about 40-50lbs of that over the last couple years and I'm sure it has contributed to my symptoms. I'm really 'bottom heavy' The stinging legs, and aching thighs which I get a lot too, I think it's because of the extra pressure on my hips and sciatic nerve. I want to loose it too, but I get so sore if I exercise too much, it just puts me off. And I cannot diet, I have crohns and an ileostomy and with my stomach it's all about keeping a balance. I think I'm struggling a little too with some depression. My motivation to see what else I can do is really low, and the weather don't help. I'm in the UK and it's been terrible so far this year. You're healthy that's great, and it sounds like you are doing really well at sticking to your diet, even though as of yet it's not showing any signs of success don't give up, keep doing it. You might start to lose a couple pounds, losing weight is hard, and when you start you will feel amazing
JungleJulia 235 Posted May 16, 2012 I get dizziness and migranes too as well as mood swings. I have GAD.
Mrs. Rogers 2 Posted May 17, 2012 The dizzy spells, migraines, and mood swings could also be from high blood pressure or an irregular (fast) heartbeat. I experienced this.
shaun 6 Posted May 17, 2012 Most of the symptoms you describe are anxiety related. Feeling lightheaded and dizzy is associated with anxiety because our breathing is shallow when we are anxious and we don't inhale enough oxygen. Dry mouth is another common symptom of anxiety, and stress/anxiety is linked to migraines.
BonnyC 1 Posted May 17, 2012 If physical issues have been ruled out, which you stated is the case, then anxiety or something similar could absolutely be the culprit. A lot of people don't realize that these things can have physical manifestations. There's a strong link between our mental health and our physical health. They can have an effect on each other. For instance, many people who experience physical illnesses or disabilities can become depressed, anxious, panicky, etc. While these mental conditions were likely already there, the physical problems exacerbated them. This can also be the other way around. I know that stress causes me to feel extreme fatigue, irritability (of course), nausea, faintness and so on. Good luck to you! ValerieAnne 0 Posted May 17, 2012 Thank you all! If I schedule and appointment with a doctor is there a certain medicine ya'll would recommend? I'm not a big fan of pills so I'd rather not have to try various different medicines, if I can help it lol
