kozza 6 Posted November 24, 2014 I have read so many posts about symptoms but am I right in thinking that not many have constant muscle aches. My insomnia thankfully cleared up with the help of Lyrica tablets from the doctor but it has done nothing for the constant aches and pains I have. Most of it is centered on my upper back/neck but I also get pains in my hands and feet, esp at night when I am at home. Luckily I can at last sleep. I am terrified I have fibromyalgia and that this is it, pain for the rest of my life which might get worse and worse. All blood tests and a mri scan on my neck are all clear. Just want to cry, I have 2 young daughters and my thoughts are constantly about pain and the future. I have read all the posts about accepting anxiety etc but how can you do that when you are constantly having symptoms. xx
lonesailor14 653 Posted November 24, 2014 Hey Kozza. Upper back and neck pain are quite common. I get it myself. Even when I think I feel fine, there's a little piece of me that's still on edge. The muscles around my upper back and shoulders become tense. This hurts my neck and causes headaches. I take ibuprofen, use heat packs or a hot Epsom salts bath. I occasionally pay for remedial massage. While the pain is annoying and umm painful, it is nothing to worry about, it's just a build up of tension. Stretching exercises help too. jonathan123 2368 Posted November 25, 2014 Hi kozza. Imagine you have been for a five mile run (!!!). You would ache all over from the exercise of all the muscles. It feels good after exercise and that is normal and it would go after you rest. But the tension in nervous anxiety does not go although the cause is similar. One is due to physical exertion the other to mental exertion. The body reacts in the same way to both incidents. Whereas in exercise the mind is not playing tricks and sending false information to the body, when nervous it does; doesn't it just! You have to believe the medics when they tell you you are OK. Muscles ache because of the tension you create from worry. It will pass but try not to be impatient with time.
Bterflymom 155 Posted November 26, 2014 I get the same thing and today is really tense. I have a CD that is for relaxing muscles and it says to give yourself permission to relax your shoulders, etc. Mine are often terribly tense so I tell them to relax and deep breathe, that sometimes helps. Dany 10 Posted November 30, 2014 Because you think about the symptoms all the time, they will never disappear. I know that this is not easy, in fact it is very difficult but with time and practice you will manage to overcome the symptoms. The pain comes from the brain not from the actual disease or injuries and because of that it can work the other way, meaning that when you hit yourself or have a pain somewhere in the body, the brain triggers the pain, but sometimes the brain can trigger a pain without the actual cause. Now, don't think about the pain and get yourself distracted. Make your mind to forget that you have any pain. You should try behavioral therapy, it is quite effective. kozza 6 Posted November 30, 2014 thanks for all your replies. Funny thing is back seems better but hands and feet are really sore, but I have had blood tests for rhemotoid markers and all is fine so just need to carry on. I have started to read Claire Weekes book this weekend and I can say that so much of it makes sense. I can so see how the initial symptoms I had sent me into a spiral of fear and made them worse along with new ones. Hopefully, with more understanding on my part I will be able to relax and help myself. You are quite right Dany, I have been thinking about my symptoms 24/7 which I now know will be feeding the fire. I would love to do some behavioural therapy or at least talk to someone but getting that form my doctor would be pretty impossible. Take Care xx
