Anyone have GERD?

Recommended Posts

I’ve been without my reflux meds for a week or so but am using an over the counter that doesn’t work as well. That burning sensation is mostly gone but I’ve got a nagging cough like a congestion cough still. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I’ve had GERD off and on for years. It’s super common. Especially if you eat or have eaten poorly recently. I wouldn’t worry. Just try to eat better. Drink lots of water. Get plenty of sleep. Etc.

Given your recent food issues he mentioned, yes.  I think you are fine.

Yep. I almost always get a cough after I have a bout of GERD. It irritates your throat and such.

It feels lower down in my esophagus not my throat.

It would be wise to end all speculation and see a GI physician.

I’m trying to calm myself by checking the facts. I’ve had acid reflux for a long time and cancer is uncommon at my age. I’m 38. Plus I’m off my prescription meds, I just am scared that the over the counter stuff isn’t working as well as I’d hoped

It might be partly due to stress and then the not eating enough.

It's part of the GERD :(.

Water might help a bit with the acid.

I'm waiting for a COVID test. Kinda hoping it will be positive. At least then I will know.

I won't be able to see a doctor for several days. 😞

It is coming from the GERD.  I think you are doing the right thing in the meantime.  Try to eat and drink things are might neutralize acid until then.

Over the counter medicine such as TUMS will help. Our GI physician has told my wife to use them in addition to OTC medicines such as Prilosec and Nexium, if symptoms persist.

COVID test was negative. Honestly wasn't what I hoped for. 😫

Why?  The goal is not to get the Wuhan Corona.

TUMS works - when I started running after the Corona mask law, I had heartburn really bad, and taking a TUMS before running stopped it.  It might help with GERD.

Cause at least then I’d know what was wrong.

Corona affects the lungs and bronchial tubes, though, not the esophagus.
