Ihadcancer 321 Posted May 5, 2022 We made sandwiches for supper. I took a small bite of the corner and noticed the Great Value Roast Turkey slipping out the side felt slimy. I looked and it had some bright pink spots dime to quarter sized in the middle. The sale by date is May 27th but this pouch had already been opened a few days ago. Is pink mold on food (guessing that's what it was) dangerous/ deadly? I threw it out right away and was too scared to eat anything else!
Ironman 198 Posted May 6, 2022 Mold wouldn't develop so quickly on the meat if you had just opened it up a few days ago if it was in the refrigerator. A pink spot or two is normal. It doesn't sound like you would have eaten enough to get sick anyway. If you did catch something, symptoms would take a minimum of 24 to 48 hours to start. MARC 431 Posted May 6, 2022 Many years ago my wife was hospitalized for food poisoning. She became ill and was vomiting and having diarrhea. My wife became dehydrated and that is why she ended up in the ER. The ER physician told us that food poisoning typically is over quickly and onset occurs usually in 6 to 24 hours. It must depend on the person and bacteria. I had the bad diarrhea version in the sixth grade. 24 hours one and done. I had a bad chef's salad Thanksgiving week of my last year in college - projectile vomiting and two days of not being able to keep anything down. I had finals the next week! Three years after that, I had vomiting, and my skin turned gray for a couple of days, and then I broke out. The worst generally is over within 48 hours, but you gotta have a toilet or bucket handy lol.
