I'm new in this forum and have been suffering with anxiety for a lot of years. It's mostly health related and it helps me to talk with others and know I'm not the only one that has different feelings and such. Thank you all

Hi Marsha. You say you have suffered for many years. You worry about your health and that is health anxiety. Have you had a check up? It's always a good idea to get reassurance even if you don't believe them!! We doubt everything, don't we? That is so typical of anxiety. We are anxious because we are anxious. We add fear to fear because we feel fearful! The old viscous circle sets in. Symptoms/anxiety/fear/symptoms.  The chain has to broken. I don't know if the articles from 'lone sailor' or myself have been kept on the site, but you will see we both advocate acceptance. Giving up trying to control 'IT'. We have a Tiger by the tail. Don't let him drag you around. Let go! This 'giving up' is not 'giving in', oh no! Acceptance is not giving in to the feelings. It's going with them rather than fighting or struggling with them. Bending with the wind without resistance, like a tree in a gale. If it didn't bend it would break. Now this is not at all easy. We can't stop our worrying, but we can accept that worry rather than trying to fight  it off.    Best wishes.     John.

John,

Yes sir I have been to the doctor, as a matter of fact went to cardio doc today, he doesnt think its anything with heart but is doing couple of tests.

I go to new PCP tomorrow, as my other doc had to leave to take care of her kids during covid . I need meds refilled and have to see him to have it done.

I used to take zoloft and xanax as needed. I'm going to ask him if there is something else that my work better than zoloft.

My mind just goes 24/7 on health, I really work myself up. I try to ignore but lately it has been difficult.  Finding this forum seems to help me. To know others have the same feeling as I do. I'm a validation type person.

Do you know of meds that seem to work best for anxiety?

Thank you for responding

Marsha

Hi. Marsha. There are many medicines available for anxiety. But, in my opinion should only be short term. Now many take meds regularly because the pain of anxiety is difficult to bear. There is no 'cure' for anxiety through medication. What it does do is take the edge off the pain and give us time to think things through. We can't do that when we are so very anxious. If I tell you that what you are feeling IS NORMAL IN THE CURCUMSTANCES you are creating for it to flourish, would you believe me? Constant 24/7 anxiety is endless unless we take some action, not through medication, but a total and absolute acceptance of how we feel. Every time you worry you give yourself another injection of adrenaline, the fear hormone. In the end the body responds to the slightest little 'trigger' and it seems to come 'out of the blue' and for no reason that we can see. You are highly 'sensitised'. To 'desensitise' yourself you need to look at your situation and ask questions.  'What is there in my life that is causing this?'. 'Why am I not able to overcome this?' Any effect must have a cause, and any cause an effect, That is the law of physics, and it applies very much to anxiety.     Take care and try and practise acceptance. There will be no immediate effect, it is not medication, but can have a lasting effect with regular practise.

Sit down, deep breaths and let it all come. No fighting or struggling. Not easy but it can be done.
