Taran 8 Posted August 15, 2013 So I've recently been to see a lot of specialists at various hospitals and big scary offices, and the official diagnosis is that I've been suffering from Anorexia Nervosa for quite a while now, and its just never been spotted. Currently I'm 5'6" and weight 45kg, which I think is about 7 stone ish. I do a lot of dance, running, and skip meals a lot, especially in the summer when I'm on the festival tour, and try to stick to low fat foods. Does anyone have any good advice on dealing with this as I'm on a waiting list for therapy and specialist help, but the list is over 18 months long... <
Gilly 1086 Posted August 15, 2013 I am sorry taran. Your family know about the diagnosis? Let them help you with diet and making sure you eat often. You are a very active girl you need the energy. 7 stone is not too drastic and you are young when diagnosed, that is really good. They have caught it in good time and I'm sure you will be able to manage it successfully. IF you struggle go straight to your GP, it's important because they will bump you up the waiting list if your condition gets worse. You do need help with the psychological and emotional side from professionals. There are lots of support groups out there too which might be helpful for you to join. You are going to be OK Now you know what you are dealing with, I know it can be quite scary to be diagnosed with something like this but lots of people recover and cope very well with it. jonathan123 2368 Posted August 16, 2013 Hi Taran. Gilly is right. Support groups are essential with this kind of problem. To be with others who suffer and to swap ideas and advice is so useful. You may be interested to know that Anorexia is on the increase and is usually due to the pressures that young people are subject to these days. It is far more common among girls than boys. But it is very curable. Yes, a good balanced diet is so important and if you are using more energy than you are getting from your food you will feel down. Don't skip meals. You need a regular routine of food intake so try and work out a programme for yourself and stick to it. It sounds as if you have caught this in time and, as I said, it is very curable so try not to worry. Good luck to you. Jon.

Gilly 1086 Posted October 15, 2013 Hi Namii, You need to see a doctor, and then go from there. I know it's scary but it's ok, you're going to be ok. Welcome to AC
