AlexN7 0 Posted May 17, 2013 So basically in this thread we write the things we'd like to share that we think only we do no matter how silly or weird it sounds! Share what you're comfortable with of course or just have a good laugh at the ones I'll post =] I find I do the weirdest things sometimes >_<; Some will have to do with Anxiety, Agoraphobia and other illnesses but most of them will just be random. So without further adieu! -Sometimes when I'm in a large crowded area I suddenly become increasingly conscious of how I'm walking, standing or sitting. -I take my smartphone to the bathroom with me. Always. Even in the bath or shower sometimes. -I walk around aimlessly when talking on the phone -when i was young I used to wonder what my favorite actor/artist was doing at that exact moment -If I'm playing basketball or any sport, I always have to leave the court on a good note by making a last shot/goal before leaving. -I always have to sit closest to the exit, or in the back of classrooms, cinemas. -I've flat out walked away from conversations/situations without saying a word due to panic symptoms. -I use the "urgent phone call" or "urgent bathroom" excuse a lot. So those are a few just to start and you get the idea! We can also talk about some of them and relate to each others!
Gilly 1086 Posted May 17, 2013 This is going to be a great thread Alex! I have about a million lol but here are a few My inlaws laugh and call me the walking pharmacy, I never go anywhere without pain meds, chocolate, antibac gel, tissues, indigestion meds, plasters (bandaids) I always have kalms and of course my rescue remedy, migraine meds... always prepared! I have an ileostomy (I poop in a bag) and shamelessly I often use it as an excuse to hide my anxiety if I want to leave somewhere... "sorry must go, poop bag leak" O_O Writing that here actually sounds stupid, I'm more embarrassed to admit I feel panicky than I have crapped myself? Dayum Like you, if I go to the cinema or to eat out, I have to sit either closest to the bathroom, in a restaurant, or at the end of the aisle in the cinema. And for the longest time, I would not eat anywhere you had to wait until after you ate to pay the bill. When my anxiety was bad I had to have a bath or shower every day, sometimes twice. Now yes I did it because it helped me to calm a little but I also did it to make sure I was clean in case I had to be rushed to hospital..... Silly now but back then... I panic if I lose internet access, must have internet access at all times, because that will save me from panic right? In my head, yes lol I can't sleep with a phone in the room, leaving my phone in another room stops bad things from happening right?
jonathan123 2368 Posted May 18, 2013 Oh Alex. Real gems. Join the club mate! Although mainly over the worse of my GAD (and that statement is guaranteed to bring on something!!!) I still keep my mobile handy "Just in case". I too, Gilly, panic if my web goes down. It's funny. When I went into hospital for an op I came out with MRSA. I had to have 2 showers every day, sniff up various antibiotics, wash the bed sheets every day and that got rid of it. But the point was that not once did I panic, have anxiety or anything else about the problem. It is when I have no problem that the problems start. Honest! What a damn erratic business this is. Why is it that having had it all before, hundreds of times, we fall for it every time? Whatever it may be. And another thing (the anxiety sufferers cry) I can always hear something wrong with the car when my wife tells me she can hear nothing. I am sure the storage tank is leaking in the loft; it sounds funny! The person next door walked passed without speaking. What have I said!! Nothing. They were OK next time we met. It's a good thing we are all together on this otherwise we would think there was something wrong with us !!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, this should be a great thread. J. Gilly 1086 Posted May 18, 2013 Oh J my Mum left hospital with the MRSA bug just recently, she was fine too, I was the paranoid one, made the skin om my hands sore I washed them that many times.
jonathan123 2368 Posted May 18, 2013 You were very wise though Gilly to take precautions. It seems that we all carry this bug around but the resistant type is confined to hospitals. It is resistant to most antibiotics. It is OK so long as we don't have an op then it can stop the healing process and cause problems. I had a hernia op when they found that I had the bug AFTER the op. The surgeon went potty. He should have been told before then the op would have been cancelled. But nothing happened so it was all OK. Just goes to show again how we worry unnecessarily!! Regards. J.
Gilly 1086 Posted May 18, 2013 Yeah I was just a bit worried because 1, my immune system is compromised, I take immunosuppressants. And 2, my ileostomy, it's a perma open wound. Turns out everything was fine but you know us...
Hoshi 4 Posted May 20, 2013 Love this thread! It's going to be popular. So far I don't actually have any of the things that you guys have said :-o Here's a few of mine.. If other people are in the house during the day and I'm listening to music, I always have to keep one earphone out so I can be semi-aware of anything that might be going on outside. Otherwise I literally can't relax. Once I know everyone's in bed for several hours I'm fine. I'm a girl yet I hover over the seat to pee pretty much every opportunity instead of sitting down. Not so much because of unsanitary worries but mostly because I've never liked the feeling of a cold seat and now I'm just so used to doing it! I unconsciously walk, hover and even jog around on my tiptoes, even in shoes, so naturally and often that all of my friends don't even notice it's unusual. Somehow if I try not to, it feels incredibly self-conscious and forced to stomp around on full foot. (Wow, thinking about those last two, my thighs are goddamn ripped) Those are all I can think of that I think are exceptionally odd at the moment.. I know I have more
ZackTheHypochondriac 0 Posted May 21, 2013 When I notice a symptom such as shaky hands, or the bluish skin on my triceps I start paying attention to other people to see if it's normal lol. This can be helpful, after paying attention I can say it's in my head because my hands don't even look like they are shaking next to alot of people. Kinda weird though lol. JOYCICLE 654 Posted May 21, 2013 I am picky at myself when talking to others in close quarters. I try to avoid that type of situation but sometimes you can't help it. The place I'm thinking of most is at the vet's office. I'm very friendly with the vet and when I go in we have a chit chat and I'm aware I am constantly removing my sunglasses from my head and putting them back on, to readjust ya see? YEA RIGHT ! And I can also unwind my hair and put it back in a bun. It seems normal to do sometimes but if the convo goes on for a few minutes, I begin to think OMG how many times have I done that now? 3 ......... 5 ? OMG they'll think I'm a freak. Twitchin, fussin, cussin !
jonathan123 2368 Posted May 21, 2013 That's interesting, Joy. Body language is a study in itself. But it's mostly unconscious isn't it? If I have to stand around in a queue or something I start sighing and my wife has to tell me to shut up as I do not seem to realise I am doing it. If I feel a bit huffy about something (and who doesn't) I tend to put my hands on my hips. Now that seems to me like an aggressive kind of gesture but the thing is I am not aware that I do it, or not until I have done it if you see what I mean. In common with most anxiety sufferers I tend to look for problems. Not in a physical sense but more the "That's not going to turn out well" kind of attitude. My wife says I belong to the "All is lost league" She is about right. But again, is it habit? I dunno. J.
