unicorn 4 Posted February 26, 2018 Hi ! I had been feeling ill lately . It started off as clearing my throat constantly and then I experienced dry cough and colds . After 2 weeks, I decided to go to the doctor and was diagnosed with post nasal drip . After having taken the medications, it didn’t work . So I went back to the doctor and she told me I could possibly have GERDs . She performed another kind of endoscopy at ghe clinic to check my throat ‘cause I had this feeling of a having phlegm stuck in my throat but she didn’t see anything . Afterwards, she gave me medications to control the acid . It helps sometimes but it gets worse when I wake up . It’s like my throat is so dry, maybe it’s how I sleep . IDK . And I’d cough out jelly like strings in the morning . I’m so desperate to get rid of it ASAP ‘cause it’s bothering me . Can you permanently cure GERDs ? Sayruh 11 Posted February 26, 2018 I deal with the post nasal drip and throat clearing every day. Could it be seasonal allergies? Did you try Claritin or FLonase? My sister has GERD. She took medicine for a couple of weeks and it doesn't bother her as much anymore.

bin_tenn 1252 Posted February 27, 2018 GERD sucks. It can trigger post nasal drip. The throat and esophagus tissues are extremely sensitive. Irritation due to acid reflux can cause the throat/esophagus to become irritated, which leads to throat clearing and/or a dry cough, which in turn further irritates the throat, which leads to more throat clearing/coughing, and so on. I've dealt with the throat clearing every day for over a decade. I've been on a PPI (Protonix / Pantoprazole 40mg once daily) for a year and a half. It has helped significantly, but I still experience the throat clearing often. I haven't had an endoscopy (yet). In terms of post nasal drip, the acid can and does also irritate the nasal passages in some cases, which is what triggers PND. Follow your doc's advice. Take a med if necessary, be mindful of what you eat, etc.

bin_tenn 1252 Posted February 27, 2018 Depends on how you treat it. Like I said, I've dealt with the throat clearing and PND pretty much every day for over a decade. Some days are worse than others, but the PPI and being more watchful of what I eat helps overall. Try altering your diet. Reflux triggers vary from person to person. Keep an eye on what you're eating and when your symptoms worsen, then try to cut back on those triggers.

I’ve been taking PPI’s as well and it does help but it gets worse at night or when I’d just woke up . I’d cough out jelly strings and an awful sore throat . x_x
bin_tenn 1252 Posted February 28, 2018 Most of my GERD episodes also happen at night. The morning stuff may be the environment you're sleeping in. Have you tried a humidifier or anything like that?

But we’re going to another ENT doctor . I’m so scared, my throat just gets worse at night and in the morning .
