Ruu 39 Posted January 14, 2018 I've been having more thoughts like this recently. I've been hearing weirdly a lot of stories about people it happened to and it's making me really anxious that it's not actually as rare as you'd think. especially as most of my worries are about my heart and most of these deaths seem to be related to heart issues. im in bed now and scared I'm not going to wake up
bin_tenn 1252 Posted January 15, 2018 Those horror stories are a very unfortunate fact of life, but also uncommon. They're most often due to underlying (and usually undiagnosed) heart conditions. Congenital heart defects and such. It is indeed an awful fear, and while I sort of worried about that before, it never caused a significant amount of worry for me. I think it's best to just breathe deeply, relax, realize that you are alive and well, and enjoy it.
SurferJoe 11 Posted January 16, 2018 That worry has kept me up on more than a few nights. I think what is the most scary for me is that while I'm asleep - I don't know what is going on. I figure if I'm awake and something happens - I'll maybe have a chance to do something. That said, while people do pass away in their sleep - I second the first response that mentions that it is uncommon. Try and be mindful of that fact - especially at bedtime. Do what you can to not think about it at all before bed - but if you do - definitely take some deep breaths and relax and let your mind calm down. anthonycain 15 Posted January 18, 2018 I have the same worry... It's frightening to say the least... I don't have a easy fix or method to suggest, but I do share the same fear, what gets me through us the fact that I always manage to wake up in the morning... That alone, kinda makes me believe that my mind is just playing tricks on me. Therefore I just close my eyes.. make peace with God and sleep.
healthworrier92 15 Posted January 18, 2018 After my uncle died suddenly in July 2016, I went through a period lasting about 2-3 months where I was so scared that I would go to sleep and not wake up. I'm a relatively healthy person, 23 years old at the time, no serious health issues. But like you, I read stories of that happening to people with no warning, and I was suddenly convinced it would happen to me and there was nothing I could do to stop it (especially since it happens during sleep). As I'm here writing this, my fears didn't come to pass, and I have a large suspicion that it won't come to pass for you either. Relax as much as you can, and trust that when you close your eyes at night you will open them again in the morning.
