No matter how many times I read that lightheadedness and foggy mind/vision is a classic symptom of panic disorder, My reaction remains the same. No time to rationalize when it comes on all of a sudden. I'm so tired...

Yes, GMan, we are all tired and worn out because the physical symptoms are so strong and scary, it wears our minds down after experiencing them for a while. Of course you are tired! Who wouldn't be? Unless you were a robot. Are you getting any help? I was just on your page and read up on your posts, are you still taking Zoloft? Did it bring you the needed relief or not. For some people Zoloft doesn't seem to work well. Have you talked to your GP about trying something else?

We are hear to talk. I had a time when I felt it would never be better but thankfully it is. You will get there!!!!!! :)

I tried Zoloft but had bad side effects. Had  dizziness that made me unstable, and changes in heart rhythm. The doctor has only given me hydroxyzine for panic attacks, which is not effective for panic. The 'expert' opinion of the nurse practitioner was to just drive, operate heavy machinery at work etc., and continue to take the Zoloft.. despite unstable dizziness and changes in heart rhythm... and refuses to prescribe anything else. Unfortunately, this is what you go through to get mental health treatment in the military. My primary care doc didn't even want to send me to get evaluated for panic disorder. It took 4 appointments and continuing to press the issue before I was referred. She said "everyone has anxiety". of course the evaluation confirmed panic disorder, and GAD. I switched docs for medication control, but the new doc didn't want to change the other docs prescription, although she admitted that she would have probably done something different. I guess professional courtesy trumps the patient's well being... but this is the norm for military healthcare

I'm sorry to hear you are going through this! Are you AD? I have a friend who was on Zoloft and she couldn't handle it either, it made her panic worse. She kept communicating with doctors until they found the right medication for her. I think it's awesome you've kept pressing the issue until you got evaluated! You have to be your own advocate and bypass the red tape somehow. Crazy how she said:' Everyone has anxiety'. :(

I truly hope you can find the right doctor who will listen to you and prescribe something that will help you. Don't give up! Maybe you can call the Tricare Hotline and explain your situation and be switched to another PMC?

Yea, I'm AD. This whole thing started about 2yrs ago. Just with stress and a few minor symptoms. I went then because I knew the symptoms were related to stress, because of everything that was going on. The military delayed treatment and the stress turned into panic attacks, then depression, then GAD, then full panic disorder. Now over 2yrs later, and I'm still not receiving the proper treatment. I'm considering filing a grievance through tricare.

Same, got prescribed Zoloft by a pyschiatrist and it made me extremely panicky. I told my GP about it, and he was puzzled why he put me on Zoloft. I guess he said Paxil is a better fit for the type of Panic Disorder and GAD I have.

Since then, I decided not to use anything except Xanax (.25mg) for emergencies. Hydroxyzine did nothing for me either. Buspirone curved the anxiety but gave me weird side effects. I felt drunk on it.

For treatment, I see a therapist, meditate, and read self help books.

And I also suffer from the brain fatigue/fog. I also have a vestibular disorder so my eyes get super tired much easier in an effort to keep my balance stable. So sometimes I don't know if its the anxiety or the balance issue.

Good you've found a way of dealing with things. Best Wishes!
