maria26 2 Posted April 28, 2017 Once again I am so scared that I am shaking. My ribs are tender to touch. I had a few twinges there a couple weeks ago, immediately started pushing very hard and found they hurt in places. I can feel a vein or something over most of the areas but have pushed so hard I am bruised. Now I am getting stabs of pain over the lower right ribs at back area which is worrying me more. I am afraid it is cancer in the ribs. I know I sound mad. I have also been twisting to see the area in the mirror so perhaps I have done all this. My anxiety is escalated everytime it hurts. I have had pains since jan. Between spine and shoulderblade. Have had x rays etc the last was sat. When i panicked over the lower ribs but all was clear. I then read x rays dont always show anything. When i press on the rib some areas are painful and i only pressed there to start because I had got twinges. Had ct chest shortly before rhe upper pains started and dr said ct great for seeing ribs. So would not do another scan. Saw a therapist who said upper back pain was myofascial pain got some relief from acupuncture but this lower rib pain is now scaring me. Anyone else with ribs that hurt Thank you
utrocket09 115 Posted April 28, 2017 Twisting when you have a sore rib area isn't going to make it any better If you had any sort of bone type cancer the pain would be so bad you would not be able to function. When my aunt had bone pain related to cancer, she couldn't walk. Give it a few days to heal, and don't press on it.
Bobnnat 496 Posted April 28, 2017 I have had rib pain for many years, especially when pressing on it. I was once diagnosed with chostocondritis (sp?) which is just a harmless inflammation. True, muscle pain can manifest as rib pain and actually pain anywhere. The CT would have caught anything of note. You are fine.
maria26 2 Posted May 1, 2017 Thank you guys, bob did you ever get twinges of pains on or around ribs, I know ribs are painful in places tompush on but even when I am sitting I get these slight stabs. Hate this health anxiety and in my case cancer phobia I am not anxious over other health conditions. Good to hear the ct chest with contrast would detect rib cancer and i have had x rays as well. Would not worry now but these stabs pain in area scare me. I admit twisting to look at back and lots of prods. Would be great to know if anyone else like this. I am very very anxious
Bobnnat 496 Posted May 1, 2017 Yes, Maria I get the twinges and have for as long as I've had HA. I'm convinced it's muscle related. As rocket said, if there was a tumor on the rib, you would be in excruciating pain. Plus, plain x-rays are excellent for picking up bone issues so you have actually had 2 types of imaging, either of which would have picked it up. The trick (easier said than done) is to forget about it and you won't even notice them. Concentrate on them and you'll notice every single twinge.
MARC 431 Posted May 1, 2017 I have had pain that comes and goes in the general vicinity of my right rib area for 14 years and have had every test in the book and no organic cause has ever been found.
Pinky92 44 Posted May 1, 2017 Hi, Maria. I'd trust the tests. You're okay. You've pretty much beaten yourself up, physically. And because we have health anxiety, we pretty much never stop beating ourselves emotionally. I've beaten my abdomen up because I was convinced I had something that I could actually detect by pressing until I felt excruciating pain, then twisting around and causing back pain. Stop pressing, prodding, poking, you have actually bruised yourself. I don't think our insides appreciate it in the least. I stopped doing this and I feel so much better. I have forced myself to believe that if there is anything wrong with my internal body, it is smart enuf to manifest the pain on its own, it doesn't need me to help do the job it was made to do. It works. Believe your tests, and thank god for them. Take care.
maria26 2 Posted May 1, 2017 Dear all, thank God for all of you and this group. Pinky, you have described how I am perfectly. Wont bore you all with my story but I spent years caring for my parents, no regrets, and my Mum died of cancer when I was in my 20s and that started the h.a. yes, I have pressed so hard my back is bruised. I have twisted to look round the back and I should be Intelligent enough to know why I am getting sore . One last question for Bob and anyone who had stabs twinges etc. Did you feel this when at rest and not moving as that is my last concern as I accept it will hurt on movement So glad to have found you all as people that dont have h.a. cannot understand. My lovely husband justs says well, dont touch it, or dont worry. He does not worry about aches, pains. Must be wonderful to not have that fear. Bobnnat 496 Posted May 1, 2017 Hi, Maria; The twinges happen periodically and for no known reason; doesn't matter if I'm lying still or moving. Actually, just by breathing we are moving the muscles in that area. What you say about those who do not have HA is so true. My wife practices tough love and has no sympathy for me. Fortunately I have a doctor who understands my anxiety and usually is able to allay my fears when I see him. Bob
maria26 2 Posted May 1, 2017 You are a good man Bob, you have helped me so much. It is so difficult when we need support and our nearest and dearest just dont get it. Reassurance is so important with h.a, we know we are not drs here but we understand and it helps to know others have had the same symptoms. Pinky92 44 Posted May 1, 2017 Wow, Maria, that's when my HA went off into a life force of its own, when my mom had cancer. Ironically, I was okay while she was sick and to this day I thank God I was able to care for her, but when it was over, I was left with so many bits and pieces of information which I picked up from the Internet in my searches about her illness. All this useless info is now stored in my brain and it's a daily fight to deal with them. I forget where my car keys are, my glasses, my underwear, EVERYTHING except for the useless "health" info. I know exactly how you feel. It's brutal. Take care, and God Bless You.
