looking_for_the_purpose 6 Posted March 13, 2017 i was searching on the internet some tech for relieving anxiety, and i found EFT. sorry if i am repeating someone`s post, but has anyone tried it? does it work, it`s just one big mambo jumbo? here are some articles related to that http://www.emofree.com/eft-tutorial/tapping-basics/how-to-do-eft.html http://www.emofree.com/eft-tutorial/tapping-basics/what-is-eft.html
MsLLL 413 Posted March 13, 2017 Hi looking! I have heard of this and tried it but not together with a professional. I know a lady who swears by this but I'm not sure if it's for anxiety in her case. I've opted for Psychotherapy (not a lot of success there), and now CBT (which helps me comprehend what anxiety is, to expose myself to my triggers and to learn how to move forward with my life). Interested in people who might have tried this though. What works for one might not work for someone else and vice versa.
looking_for_the_purpose 6 Posted March 15, 2017 yes, definitively i couldn`t agree more - if something works for someone, just keep rolling. i am trying this for couple of days. first time when i tried it, i was feeling little bit silly because of tapping and everything, but after i finished the "session" i realized that i felt relief. mostly because of exposure of my fears and repeating them loudly. so, i though that i found a miracle. but few days after, this "cure" doesnt look so much miraculous now...i think that repeating mantra lost its power. i am decisive to keep trying for the next 7-10 days, and see what will happen. BeautifulDisaster 68 Posted March 15, 2017 I was introduced to tapping maybe 6 yrs ago when I saw a counselor. I will admit, at the time, I did it but I wasn't too open to it. Now, no lie, it has been coming up on my radar again so I have been giving it another try. The point of the tapping is to rewire your thinking and feeling. The script isn't quite as important as the actual tapping, but you should be using words that are very honest to your feelings at the time. You should tap until you feel immediate relief after the tapping - relief to some degree. You are to mentally rate your feelings before tapping on a scale of 0-10 and re-rate after tapping. If the # didn't decrease even just by 1 or 2 points, you need to keep tapping. So yes, you may need to do it throughout the day even. Tapping should give you immediate results. You talked about a few days after, it is meditation that will condition your nervous system over the long run. So I also recommend pairing it with daily meditation. And it's important to remember that anxiety is so ingrained in our minds that it takes a looooong time of CONSISTENT practice to really break through those blocks. A few days is relatively nothing. It's a commitment to self care and long term health. If you continue looking into tapping, check out the book The Tapping Solution by Nick Ortner (or just Google him). He has done a lot of work on this. Hope this helps!
looking_for_the_purpose 6 Posted March 16, 2017 thank you very much beautiful....i agree that just few days of using that is basically nothing...especially having in mind the fact that i have been using therapy for 2 years now(with all ups and downs). i am very much familiar with procedure of tapping, but as i said, that repeating mantra "even though i..................................., i completely and sincerely accept myself", just lost it`s "power". first day it brought me relief, second day....hmm yes and no, and third and fourth day almost nothing. fear was still there. definitively i`ll `keep trying, i have nothing to lose. you mentioned meditation....i am very much interested in that, but yt is full of many things, some of them might be considered as a detrimental, some of them beneficial...do you have some recomendation regarding that?? some good anxiety relief meditation, video or even book...i think it could be useful for me, since i am complete layman. BeautifulDisaster 68 Posted March 16, 2017 Hey there, Maybe part of the reason the mantra was losing its power is because it needs changed? Once you understand how to talk through eft, the language you use changes based on your emotions at the moment. Use words that tell your exact fear, even if your anxiety is making you feel nervous about saying those words out loud, that's how it becomes most powerful. And remember, you are rewiring, even if it doesn't feel as amazing as you expect it to. Have you talked to your therapist about how you feel with tapping? I am all for meditation and do it regularly now and feel it is a major player in my mental health. When I started out, I used an app called stop, Breathe & think. It's a free app. You check in on your body and mind, then it recommends a few of their meditations which range from 3 min to 20 (you pick). And you just relax, breathe, and listen. Or you can do your own meditation. Set their timer and just breathe on your own. So if meditation sounds challenging, I think this is a great way to get started and used to it. Now I do kundalini yoga meditation due to all I have read on it in terms of calming an ocd brain (I have HA, but what is lingering with me is ocd based HA). So there are different forms. I have also heard of an app called headspace, but I have never used it. Check out stop, breathe & think. If you don't like it, you can always delete it, right? Hope this helps! looking_for_the_purpose 6 Posted March 17, 2017 hmm maybe you are right...maybe i have to be focused on exact fear or discomfort at the moment, instead of repeating mantra related to some general things that bother me. at this moment i dont have therapist unfortunately, since i am living abroad, but i have plans to start working on it again...maybe via skype or something like that. lately i was watching on yt some cbt techniques regarding anxiety...so when i starter digging up and implementing those tech, my anxiety at one moment skyrocketed...most likely i touched something i guess it`s normal....i have GAD and SAD, and i have heard that cbt is maybe best approach to diminish it. i just downloaded recommended app:) because i have some guests in my house, it would be socially akward i tell them - be quite, i am going to meditate a little bit:) but starting from Monday, when they leave, i`ll try it. i agree that people who are able to perform meditation are making huge leap forward on their mental-healing-path
BeautifulDisaster 68 Posted March 18, 2017 Yes, with eft you are supposed to be saying how you truly feel - that's a big part of whyit works. Generic phrases like "even though I have this fear ..." will help but aren't as powerful as saying "even though I am afraid that _____, I deeply and completely love and accept myself " will really get to the root and will sometimes bring other emotions up as well. I would encourage you to keep at it. Look up some eft on yt too. With practice you will get more specific naturally (at least, I have found that as my experience.) Good luck with the app. I found it very useful and especially great in getting me into the mediation habit because meditation did not come naturally to me!
