Lone Ranger 1 Posted April 17, 2016 Hello, I,ve been on Paxil 25mg for about 9 months now. My treatment was prescribed for a panic disorder and GAD. Also I have a bit OCD and ADHD. I've been reading lately various articles that describe the permanent damage SSRI's do. I don't know if should continue or stop. I'm planning on discussing it with my Psych next week but have any of you guys experienced or know about the subject? Thank you very Much
Pistol Star 18 Posted May 22, 2016 Hi, I have taken paxil for a while to help with GAD, I dont know if it ever help but I have withdraw from it and from other antidepressant. I have no authority to advise you but I will share my experience. Of course, it is important that you notify your prescriber of your intention, he will make a program and maybe prescribe lower dose to smooth the process. Never do it cold turkey!! I had try it and it is a bad idea. Do it slowly and with precaution, so slowly that you almost doesnt feel any unpleasant symptoms of withdrawal. Almost everybody experience different symptoms. For example: Paxil is supposed to be an antidepressant hard to quit, I did easily following a tapering Schedule of my doctor. I have quit Lexapro cold turkey after a year without feeling any side effect. Remeron is supposed to be easy to quit but I have so much difficulty tapering it, I have a strong rebound insomnia with anxiety. So I always come back taking the med. But I'm positive that one day I will be ready and able to withdraw from it and deal with my anxiety and insomnia in more natural and positive way. This is a website I strongly recommend for you. It's all about tapering antidepressant, full of caring people and useful information. http://survivingantidepressants.org/ Good luck.
jonathan123 2368 Posted May 23, 2016 If you punch up on the web "Professor Ashton Manual" you will find a lot of useful info about withdrawal and how to do it. She specialised in this kind of prescribed drug withdrawal. She gives 'tapering' tables and is generally very informative. You are right. NEVER cold turkey, a big mistake and, yes, always work with your medical advisor. Good luck. Jon.
jonathan123 2368 Posted May 23, 2016 AND of course. Lone Ranger, welcome to AC. . Sorry, but I seemed to recognise your profile name from somewhere else! Keep away from Google and medical advice EXCEPT from your GP or some professional. Never listen to the rubbish that is spread around the web. Your only source of info should be from the medics. I know some disagree with me but that's my experience. I have often been frightened by Dr. Google, and the last thing you want in anxiety is to be frightened. Reassurance is better. Jon.
