I've been looking for a site where people understand anxiety and the burdens that come with it. I've suffered for 15yrs. And its gotten better but know I'm trying to wean off valium after all these yrs. Just looking for anyone that has been or is going thru similar..I hope the best for everyone. Peace.

Hi Kay, Welcome to Anxiety Central :) There are lots of us here going through similar. I have had anxiety for the past 5 years now and it definitely helps to communicate with people who understand xx

Welcome Kay,

I'm new here also. I'm still trying to figure my way around the site to. Not computer savvy in the least. I've been suffering from depression, anxiety, severe panic disorder for thirteen years. I've been taking celexa and zanax for thirteen years also. In the last year I've started having agoraphobia and many other phobias. I've not ever tried to stop taking my meds because they are what helps me with these issues. I wish you all the luck on coming off of your valium. I would like to think one day I could do the same but it won't be anytime soon, unfortunately. I'm definitely not the one to give any advice on this matter. All I know is it is a slow process and you need to be careful. I do admire you for putting forth the effort to come off of these meds. I will be thinking of you during this time and hope the very best for you.  I have a listening ear and feel free to talk to me at any time!!!! :)

Hi Kay and Lizzie, welcome ! :)

Well you two will fit right in.  This place is so great and really , to me anyway, it's like a big family where we understand each other , which is great when you have real family and friends who do not understand. The thing is, no one can really understand no matter how hard they try, unless they have experienced anxiety at least at some point in their life.

Kay ,there is a section on medications. Maybe there is something in there that will help you . I do think your doctor should be assisting you with that or at the very least you should be doing it very , very slowly so as not to really throw yourself a curveball. I think its' not safe to stop meds cold turkey, so be sure you go very slow , step by step down.

Hi Joycicle,

Thanks for the welcome!:) I've already started to enjoy visiting this site. I definitely need to talk to people that understand. I know that know one that hasn't experienced any of these things can't possibly understand and I have to accept that. Love talking to you all. It's very comforting!! :)

hey kay, welcome to AC :) It's great you are doing better that you can wean off the valium, it is the 'friendliest' benzo to get off but still, take it slowly and you will be fine. Nice to meet you :)

Thank u all for the warm welcome. It is such a huge relief to finally find people who understand. As for the benzo weaning, it's going very slow. I've went from 10mgs 3 times a day for so many llong yrs to 5mgs 1 time a day and found I can go bout 2 days without one but that 3rd day usually I start getting a sick feeling. Body feels heavy, vertigo and just yucky feeling kicks in. :-\ but I try to focus on how far I've came and not get upset about it. It's so frustrating that doctors got me dependent on these and now they don't want to prescribe them anymore. It's ridiculous. So anyway thanks again u are all sooo sweet and caring. Makes me smile. Peace....
