Wife has a mass on her ovary.

Recommended Posts

She has been having pain on her lower right side for a few months and finally her doctor had her do an Ultrasound. They saw a solid mass and a cyst. They are putting in for an MRI to check the mass for anything concerning. At this point, we just wait for the MRI to be scheduled, hopefully next week sometime. I am actually at peace more than I should be... but I am curious if anyone has experience in ovarian masses and what happened? Thanks.

I have not had an ovarian mass, but I want to commend you for approaching this the way you have here.  The more information you have the better and NOT to catastrophize or speculate.  Anticipatory anxiety will likely come up with your wife.  You know the anxiety deal, so you will know how to help her.

My issue isn't this serious, but after having a vitreous/eye hemorrhage in 2016, I have been going to the doctor every six months to get a check up.  My father died of a heart attack in 2007 six weeks shy of his 61st birthday.  I get a lot of exercise (but have anxiety med weight gain and minimum hypertension (both parents have it - I am doomed lol).  The doctor told me to get a blood test before I even go in....this coming Friday.  Normally, I would get the blood test after the checkup.  There isn't anything I can di now since the test is done, but I start speculating lol.

I have heard from many family and friends, some of which are nurses, that the vast majority of ovarian mass issues are nothing and may just need removal. We’re hoping for a call today for an MRI to be scheduled so we can move on with life.

Sadly, this has started causing anxiety in me more than I’d like to admit. I’ve felt short of breath and weak in my hands the last few days. I even had the super old ALS fear resurface. I feel selfish since she is the one with the actual health concern but I’m not sure how to control that.

How is she reacting to this?  From your side, remember that you can control the reaction.  You can't control the situation, but you can control your reaction.

She’s totally fine. Nothing to worry about until there is something to worry about. Mine is subtle and not causing panic, but I can’t seem to stop the underlying anxiety. I’m not even convinced it is caused by her stuff but the timing is too coincidental to not be.

We’re waiting three months to see if the mass grows, shrinks, are stays the same. Oncologist doesn’t think it’s cancer. Less than 2% chance. For now, we wait.
