Thrufaith 9 Posted December 21, 2021 Ok so I need help solving the mystery. On Saturday i put on a new sweater that was shipped to m. I also put on some makeup same makeup i always wear, but i noticed my makeup brushes were kinda dirty. I also took 3 advils and some flonase. Within 35 minutes i had hives on my face and my arms. My top lip swelled. I am not sure what caused the reaction??? Am now i lergic to advil even though i jave taken it before without any issues? Was it the sweater? MARC 429 Posted December 21, 2021 It could have been an allergic reaction to any of the items you mentioned. A number of years ago I was prescribed Amoxicillin for an infection. When I took it, I began to itch on my hands and on my genital area. I never had any reaction to Amoxicillin in the past, but I could not take it anymore. I used to eat seafood. Around 20 or so years ago, I was at a meeting and had some scallops. I began to feel hot. When I got home, my entire body was sunburn red. I began to panic a bit and called my wife, who is a pharmacist and she said to take Benadryl and I did, and the redness went away. I talked to my physician, and he said, well I guess no more seafood for you. He said anyone can get a reaction to a food, shampoo, etc., even if you were fine in the past when you ate it, used it, etc.
Thrufaith 9 Posted December 22, 2021 Interesting...what should i do? Should i go see an allergist?
Otherside 3 Posted December 23, 2021 Looks an allergic reaction, I'd guess something in the sweater due to where the hives were. Could be the dye, the fabric, anything that was used to treat the sweater. Has it gone or is it still there? If it is still there, antihistamines, stuff you can get a chemist like allergy skin creams, collodial oatmeal for baths. Go see a doctor if it is really itchy and irritating you (though they will likely say antihistamines.)
MARC 429 Posted December 23, 2021 Maybe see an allergist or your physician and explain what has happened.
