Hi mrspooh. It sounds as if you are having a setback which often occurs in this illness. Can you use the same method you used to get it under control before? One of the problems with this complaint is that when a setback occurs we think that it is here to stay when, in fact, it usually passes given time. Let us know how you feel. We are always willing to help if possible.     Jon.

Its getting better Jon. Truth be told I can't remember what I did before. I guess it depends on the day as to how severe it gets. Some days its manageable others feels like I'm stuck in a cycle of anxiety. I know it will get better...mind or matter :-) haha easier said then done some days. But I will get back!

Yes, with that attitude you will get back. One of the most distressing symptoms of this illness is its up and down effect. We can feel really well. We say to ourselves 'that's it, back to my old self. Nasty experience but gone for good' only to find the next day ( or even hour) that it returns again in full force. We immediately get in a state and imagine we will be like it for ever. This creates more fear and so it goes on.The secret is to say' ah well, here you are again but you don't fool me this time as I am not going to give you any attention. Do what you like, I am not listening any more', then accept the feelings, however horrible. Without attention 'IT' will eventually give up because what 'IT' fears most is lack of attention. No attention, no fear, no anxiety.  It is manageable and will pass.     Jon.

Hi MrsPooh, Welcome.  Has something new , different, upsetting, challenging been going on in your life that might explain this new bout of anxiety?  Sometimes if we re trace our steps we can figure out what set it off and then , by addressing that smaller issue, it can bring some great relief. Don't be afraid. You've had it under control before which means you are the BOSS of your brain!

Thank you for all the great words. I'm trying to be the 'boss' of my own brain. Somedays i think it has it's own boss. But slowly i'm getting there. Thank you Jon little by little I'm trying to get to the point where i can say..'yeah yeah I know what that feeling is' and move on! It does get easier as time goes on. But after not having an 'attack' for awhile it does scare you cause you think it's something new creeping up in the brain. But then  you remember 'hey I know what this is' and you do your best to beat the beast back down. :) Pam

Beat that beast back down and into the closet and bolt the door !

So glad you're feeling a bit better and you're right when you go a long while without an attack, then one comes out of the blue, it seems really REALLY intense. At times like that I like to try really hard to remember back a few years ago when I had all day attacks for weeks on end with no relief and then i can think ' this really is not so bad or as intense as those were back then'. But because we are getting comfortable feeling ' normal' any small attack seems like a biggie. Put them in their place !

Yup!! We think we have gone right back but we never unlearn what we have learned in a good spell. We have said many times before it is a case of three steps forward and two back but the movement is always forward. Since we are in the realms of visualisation, Joy, I would suggest locking the closet door AND putting a hosepipe under it and turn the gas on. That will get rid of the swine for good  .   Jon.

Yes joy there are days when i wonder...why has it come back after all this time...but then i realize well i'm not dead sooo there will be days when i need my BIG stick!! Even on the days when i think i'm doing well i need a stick for that in case moment.  :))

You know Pam, visualisation is a powerful tool against anxiety. In fact there are therapies based on it.  Carl Jung, the psychologist, used to advocate what he called 'waking dreams'. It is what we would call 'day dreaming'. Meditation visualisation is also good.

                                                                           *****************************

When you feel like it close your eyes. Visualise yourself laying back in a boat just drifting down a lovely river. Hear the birdsong; listen to the ripple of the water;  look up at the blue sky; just let your mind empty of cares; feel the cool breeze on your face. You pass under a beautiful weeping willow, feel the leaves brush your face.

                                                                          **** ***************************

There are a lot of meditation visualisations and if you look up the web there are many DVD's you can get that guide you. How is your imagination? This is when instead of being a curse it can become a blessing.  Jon.
