suicidal ideation

It's bad tonight. If I'm going to spend the rest of my life alone I'm not sure I want to live at all.

You are still young, so that may not be the case at all. There is a person I know who is 73 and he got married at 58. He met someone on line from Chile, who was living in Texas. He gets punched by his wife if he does not listen to her. He has come to Starbucks with a black eye, bruises, etc. She mentally abuses him too. He told me that he would rather take the abuse then be alone. To me he is a big sap, who is better off being alone.

I am trying to tell you that in some situations it is better to be alone and being alone is not the end of the world.

You don't have any family or friends?

How about at your workplace? I would become involved with your place of worship. Volunteer at a non profit of your choice. Join a club. You need to make an effort to meet people. It may take time, but your effort should pay off in the long run.

Not very many.

But you do have some? I don't have many either, but you don't need a lot, even just one good relationship (with anyone, doesn't have to be romantic) makes a world of difference.

Believe it or not, one of the best relationships I have is with my dog. He's such a good boy, and I love him so much.

Yes but I used to have more and they just seem to disappear over the years.

A friend of mine is a physician. He told me he used to be close to his family and had more friends. He said his friends seemed to disappear over the years too. He has 3 cats and tries to keep himself busy, but gets down too at times.

You need to make a concerted effort and you will feel better and get results. The key is to not give up.

Not really. Life is hard without friends.

I'm sorry it's been so hard. COVID and isolation has left a lot of people feeling this way. Do you have any pets or hobbies?

There has to be something that you love(d) to do?

I really wish there was. Anhedonia, unable to find joy in anything, is a hallmark of depression.

I know how that can get. But does anything at least feel soothing? Sometimes movies help me cope when I'm really bad? Or music. Sometimes a long bath or shower.

I guess music, sometimes comedy, or just a change of scenery. My home is terribly  lit. It's constantly dark.

Would going for a walk be helpful? What about some breathing meditation?

I do meditation before bed each night and fall asleep. Why don't you give it a try tonight?
