Mel1981 11 Posted January 6, 2021 Hey everyone, So the other day I blew my nose and threw the toilet paper into the toilet and then I had to use the bathroom. Just after having the BM I wiped and then looked and noticed that it seemed to be a tiny round speck of blood on the TP but it seems to be from the one I blew my nose on and was probably from that. However, for some reason, it just got me going again about colon cancer worries. Now I'm looking very close every time I go. I had to have a CT scan with contrast on April 30th of last year that found a kidney stone. Otherwise, they said everything looked good, I had a slightly enlarged prostate and a couple of benign spots on my liver. They said the colon and everything else looked good. Please tell me I can just be reassured by that scan because I would think cancer like colon wouldn't just develop that quickly after. It's only been 8 months. This morning I saw a tiny different colored spot on my stool that I wiped away with TP and it just dissipated. I know I shouldn't be looking so hard but I couldn't tell if it were really red or not. Ironman 198 Posted January 7, 2021 Mel1981, Food can result in different colors in the stool. Grape Kool-Aid turns my stool green! There could be undigested peppers, corn kernels. If you had a recent test, it should build up so quickly. Also, try not to strain. Doctors are your friends; they are professionally trained to notice anything out of the ordinary. Take what they told you as good news!
MARC 431 Posted January 7, 2021 I have mentioned this before but in November 2019 I had severe rectal pain and consistent blood on the tissue. It persisted for a long time and I got nervous so my internal medicine physician told me to call my GI physician. He scoped me and it was just a hemorrhoid. At the worst, the hemorrhoid might be causing problems, but nothing more than that. Normally, you would need to wait at least a year for insurance to pay for another unless there is something critical. That would be a last resort kind of deal. I would say for now, just monitor - and find softer toilet tissue! Look into some products for hemorrhoids to help with swelling.

I feel like the tiny spot of blood I saw was from blowing my nose because of dryness and everything. I guess I just want to know that a CT scan that recent with nothing bad is still something I should look at and say I'm fine.

I went again and it was looser, probably because of the coffee I was drinking, but I couldn't tell if there was a red-ish type of color floating above one piece or if it was just a darker brown. I had a lot of pasta sauce last night so maybe from that. I think I'm analyzing it too much. You would think with a CT scan less than a year ago I would be okay to put this to bed. MARC 431 Posted January 7, 2021 When I was 25 years old, I went to the bathroom and when I wiped, the whole toilet tissue was covered in blood and the toilet bowl water was all blood red. I had an immediate meltdown and had myself dead and buried. It turned out to be a large hemorrhoid. When I went to the bathroom, the stool hit the hemorrhoid and then the bleeding happened. Have you ever had where it seems to be like a reddish 'aura' or something just outside of the stool? I had quite a bit of pasta sauce last night so thought maybe it. I would think something would have shown on the CT scan 8 months ago if it were bad.
MARC 431 Posted January 7, 2021 The pasta sauce could be responsible. My GI physician told me that what you eat or drink can influence the way your stool looks.

Definitely. I mentioned above that grape Kool-Aid can turn my stool green. It actually had a weird bluish color after I ate blue frosting on my birthday cake. Pepto-Bismol will turn it black due to the bismuth. Generally, when the body processes food to waste, it goes through phases. It starts as dark green, then light tan, and then darkens to brown. 13 hours ago, Mel1981 said: Have you ever had where it seems to be like a reddish 'aura' or something just outside of the stool? It could be a piece of skin from the tomato in the sauce or even a spice. If it's a hemorrhoid, there are products that help symptoms.

My anxiety has just been bad lately and I feel like I'm just ultra focused on this.

Stress can "raise the vigilance antenna" when it's not needed. We just need to learn to filter out the noise and the tricks our minds do to distract us.
