josephconrad 1 Posted July 18, 2012 I think part of the anxiety comes from the myth of "Friday night"- this idea that everybody who's anybody is out on the town and partying it up with 20 friends and having the time of their life. That is just not the case. There are people without any social anxiety at all that do very little on Friday night. They may watch a movie or read a book, or simply call a close friend to talk and unwind after a busy week. Still others will be making lists and planning for the following weekend. You know what old Ben Franklin said, "Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise."
thinker247 4 Posted August 10, 2012 Good point Joseph. I think sometimes I am so afraid of being abnormal that I cling too much to social norms, conformity and whatnot... but I did used to be more social than I am now. Like I don't know that I would be the club hopping, womanizing type, but I would certainly enjoy the attention and company of others if it weren't for this anxiety... Gilly 1086 Posted August 11, 2012 Embrace abnormality, who decides what is the social norm anyway? Social borefest, get your freak on thinker!!
dregon 0 Posted October 1, 2012 HONK...hope im not too late. i went to a work party the other night and felt so uncomfortable i convinced myself to stay until the pizza came (lol) and i have to drink a lot in order to feel somewhat okay around so many people... even then i just sit quietly to myself most of the time, while everyone else socializes.. it was at work but had there been a cat or dog there i would surely be spending most of the time with it xD
