Daniel150 0 Posted September 14, 2015 What is traumatic-stress-disorder?
Ihadcancer 321 Posted February 25, 2017 It's anxiety that is caused by previous trauma. It could be any type trauma. Even seeing a car wreck, watching an elderly relative get sicker and sicker, etc. Even an abusive parent or unnerving event in a school or public setting can cause people to fear ever being xyz again. I have Chronic Disease Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. That's a new sub type of PTSD. I've had cancer twice and am considered Stage IV. My anxiety is fear of illness and of the cancer coming back, being sick. Does that explain it well enough? Diane
Mark G 1187 Posted March 3, 2017 Yes, as Diane says. PTSD is anxiety which stems from unprocessed date/thoughts which are traumatic and too big to be processed correctly. As the thoughts are traumatic and frightening, the mind buries them unprocessed. The problem is that memory is only created once this date is processed. Until then these thoughts are still events so when they bubble up from the depths, they are treated as such by the mind and because of this, can be vivid and quite horrible or can throw anxiety up without the event even being thought about. There are treatments which can help one of which is what i have participated in to great effect.
