Wendyblue7 0 Posted August 16, 2014 Hi everyone! My name is Grace and I am new here. I am 18 years old and am healthy, work out all the time, eat fairly well. However, I have major health anxiety over the occasional heart flutters/palpitations/skipped beats I get. They come and go, but now it's gotten to the point where I'm so worried when the next one will happen. Sometimes I get a few a day, and ONCE in a while, I get them lasting for hours and hours, but then they will go away. But yet, even now when they aren't happening, I am so worried about it. Can anyone relate to these flutters and give me any advice? Yup, I've been to the doctor twice about it and they saw it on the EKG and just said it was adrenaline, didn't give much thought. 2 of my family members on my dad's side have flutters too. I just need advice for peace of mind! Thanks!
Gilly 1086 Posted August 16, 2014 Hi Grace, welcome to AC Heart symptoms, skips, palps ect are really common with anxiety, I know they are scary, I get them too. You have been checked out, if there was a problem with your heart it would have been found, as the doctor said adrenaline can cause them, and anxiety plays tricks on us, if we expect it, it happens, pesky anxiety brain! Try and reassure yourself, if it happens take a minute, tell yourself it's ok, it's just anxiety You are gonna be ok!
tarn 51 Posted August 20, 2014 Hi Grace, I got these too, wore a heart monitor for two weeks and recorded palps, doctors said it was all normal. Still get them from time to time, but I found cutting out caffine helped alot. I don't drink coffee or coke anymore. Made a big difference for me. :-)
Texy 13 Posted August 20, 2014 I used to get flutters all the time as well. They act up now and again but it isn't nearly as bad as it used to be. Like tarn, I have cut out caffeine and coffee and it helped tremendously. If I get a chance to swim or go workout, I find that helps as well. I have had EKG's, 24 hour monitor etc and everything came back as normal. I do find that it can be worse around that time of the month, I think it has to with your hormones. If it starts happening, I try and do something to take my mind off of it…I like to bake and it really helps me take my mind off my anxiety. You are young and healthy and don't have anything to worry about
