Jessica A 1 Posted March 21, 2012 ...Why do today's players still think they can play though their illness/es and/or injury/ies no matter what? What will it take to change and/or stop this practice altogether. In when they are doing more harm then good. Especially, with the concussions (head injuries) and etc. Concussions (head injuries) and etc This is still ongoing for a yr now and don’t see it going away anytime soon. Now, its also with hockey coaches as well. Whats up everyone making a bigger deal out Sidney Crosby's concussion/s and post concussion syndrome as opposed all of the others? Not just the NHL, but other sports as well. I'm still really quite unsure how I really feel about all of etc.
dynasty 14 Posted March 21, 2012 They play through injuries because of pressure and expectactions placed upon them weather its on themselves,coaches,media...ect. I played football(american) when I was in high school and where I'm from football is not a game, its a religion. Our football program has great traditon which means we've had a long history or winning and we're ranked year in and out so playing in a enviroment like where you got high expectations placed on you weather you want it or not wlll put alot of pressure on you. I've have played while hurt and sick several times. Also part of it is... is cause you can't stand watching your team perfrom bad while stuck on the sidelines and knowing that things could be different if you were out there. sphinx 0 Posted April 25, 2012 I dont think this attitude is just found in sport either unfortunately. In the work place now you are expected to show up even with flu or whatever. It is not a good thing - I will swear that at least one cause of my fibro is because I was a "never took a days sick" - unless practically confined to hospital or in hospital. OK the only pressure on myself was from myself but I now go on at people - if you feel rough take a sick day - its better a couple of sick days each year of your working life than getting half way through your working life and being left unable to work at all. I also thing bosses need to wise up to the real effect on productivity - sick people dont work well and take longer to recover - the worker who takes a day for a cold will achieve more in the other four days of the week than they would in 5 if they came in sick.
