will I ever get off laxatives and diet pills

Recommended Posts

Hey...i tried so many things re laxatives. I started at 80 a day and the only thing that has worked was reducing them only when i felt ready...usually i try to reduce on a day where i have no plans the day after in case it hits me hard. Ive been chipping away at it for a year and am still at 30 a day. Its slow but its better to take a tiny step than no step. Go for it...you will get there, i promise!

One more thing...my GP said i should drop by 10 a week but it depends how long you've used them and how many you take. I was only comfortable dropping by 5 and i don't do it on a schedule...just when i feel prepared to make another change. You should probably see your GP for blood tests and to inform them before you start to come off them. They can monitor you medically but the decisions on when to make a change and how big a change to make should mainly be yours.

Hi. Triss. Welcome to AC. :).

Constipation is one of the symptoms of anxiety. It is you know, and many find that difficult to believe. But ANY symptom that is medically possible can be mimicked by anxiety. Honest, any. If I told you that you had Mongolian swamp fever because of the symptoms you have you would look it up on Google and it would frighten you.  In anxiety we are so open to suggestion a little child could often lead us.

I don't know about diet pills but I imagine they could cause constipation. You are interfering with the normal digestive system, but I would not comment on that because I have little knowledge of it. I DO know that anxiety and stress can do all sorts of strange things and most of them are harmless imagination. Remember, you whole system is upset so try and accept it for the moment and do all you can to relieve the tension.

Hi. Lovemee.  Welcome! OK, fine. We will!!:D. On this site we all have respect for each other and treat each other kindly, and if that is returned, fine. It's all about give and take, and your experience can always help someone because we are all in this together. It's a big organisation is Anxiety suffering. So you may have it, but these days but it can be overcome with the right approach.  And that's the key, the right approach, the right attitude. You need to trust. The people around you who can help, and there are many, even if those close don't seem to understand. And that is not surprising. There is NO WAY you can understand fully unless you have been there, no way!! So bear with them, it can be a bad time for them too. Once your anxiety improves so will your symptoms.      Jon.
