Suspicious Mole?

Recommended Posts

Hi new to the forum but not to anxiety, it's literally eating me alive... I have this mole, don't know exactly how long I've had it, it's on my lower back to the left of my spine. It's not painful, doesn't bleed or any of that scary stuff. I had my Dr take a look and he said it looked fine and small. Okay...then I got a referral in the mail for a dermatologist. I brushed it off, in my paperwork it said "referral to dermatologist recommended although mole looks benign" well it looks benign right so why do I need to go to the dermatologist? I don't have health insurance so treatments come straight out of my pocket... Today I took a picture and I have spots in the mole Im almost positive weren't there before! I'm freaking out!!! If you zoom on the picture I posted you can see the spots I'm talking about. I made a derm appointment but it's not for another almost 3 weeks! Do you think it looks like melanoma? Please please be honest, don't tell me no just to ease my mind.

BTW I have no family history, don't go into the sun for long periods of time (I hate the sun I'd rather it be cloudy forever) it's about 3mm, no itch, pain, or bleeding. 7117A549-E161-46F5-B90D-C4931765FAA2.thumb.jpeg.f2e2a28ed7a09b1fee2254b15a5fe45b.jpeg

Hello Rose...  I'm a retired health care professional, but NOT a doctor.  Other than my own moles, I've had nothing to do with looking at other people's moles.  I have seen a lot of pictures of both normal moles and melanoma, and yours looks pretty normal to me.  You also have lots of pluses on your side, as you have already been to your regular doctor, and he thinks it looks normal.  On top of that you have none of the symptoms that it's cancerous, such as itching, pain or discomfort, bleeding, and appearing to be like a sore that is not healing.  And it sounds like you are like me, that being that I am the farthest thing from being a "Sun Bunny".  I hate being in direct sunlight.  Love a cloudy day, just like you do.  I also live close to the Gulf of Mexico, but you will never find me on the beach, except maybe at night.  So I am glad you have made an appointment with a dermatologist, as they are the skin specialist.  Hang in there, and know I am sending you good vibes.  The best to you, Rose!...  Chuck🐈

Thanks Chuck! That makes me feel better. I know it doesn't seem really have any melanoma characteristics but those new spots are making me crazy! And I know it's not smart to do but I googled and of course I scared myself silly. I just don't know if I'm actually seeing spots or if maybe it's starting to ulcerate...which I didn't know happens in melanoma until of course GOOGLE! 😭

Yes Rose, that Dr. Google is really something...  He is out there diagnosing everything, and he never spent a day in medical school-LOL!😁  You get a good night's sleep, and you'll be seeing the dermatologist before you know it.  Take care, and good night...  Chuck😉
